My 2006 Rocket 3 classic which I recently purchased has been revving while in gear, instead of accelerating as it shoud when throttle is applied....is this a clutch issue or possible transmission issues..please advise

Only when throttle applied? First I was thinking TPS.... slipping clutch? Sounds like it, if you get the revving only when giving throttle, and not some outrageous torque you should be feeling... not to mention whiplash.

Isn't there the possibility of someone using the wrong engine oil and getting such a symptom? How long have you had it?

1: Clutch not adjusted properly

2: Clutch lever not returning properly

3: Clutch out of spec

4: Oil with friction modifiers used

5: Drive shaft splines kaput

6: Gear box update needed

7: TDU needs replacing

8: Rear wheel spinning due to lots of power

I occasionally have the engine rev without it moving forward like it should. Typically this is accompanied by an unbalanced, side slipping in the rear part of the bike. Sometimes there is some smoke and a burning smell that seems somehow related to a terrible squeal like a belt noise. The squeal sometimes sounds like an old car with loose engine belts, it can be terribly loud and it's embarrassing when people stare.

How can I make it stop doing this?

Sounds like a throttle problem HellFirer.
Turn loose of the fun handle and see if it persists.
mine occasionally does that too,
I think all rockets have a similar problem,
at least the ones that have a GiPro installed.;)

Skip if they all do it then there should be a recall or something. Maybe we could start a class action lawsuit to make Triumph fix the problem. Get everyone to email or write their congressman about how dangerous it is.

I'll bet it is something simple just like you said, maybe a loose screw or something like that.

..might be something as simple as a needed clutch adjustment at the bar end..try to get the free play adjusted right and see if it makes a difference..

Unfortunately it's not the wheel spinning from it's massive power...I would think it's the clutch.
I am having the local Triumph dealership in Austin, Tx do a check on it...I just hope my rear is not too sore to sit on it if it requires major repairs

It just sounds like the previous owner mistreated the clutch and it's slipping. It won't be a "cheap" fix, but it's not that serious a repair.
