pros/cons

I rode a bunch of different Harley models before I bought my Road King and one of the reasons I didn't go with the dresser was the heat factor. I rented one for a long hot weekend and couldn't get enough air with the vents opened all the way.
I haven't ridden the Rocket Touring but the balance is very low on my standard R3 more like my brothers Softail & much better than the RK. I liked the weight of the Harley making it feel solid but it feels like a putt putt after riding the Rocket for a while. The Rocket sticks to the road and flies on command.... but no lazyboy backseat for the Mrs... as yet

Ok. So we have verbally verified how powerful the touring rocket is but I still have a question. Triumph seems to be holding this secret tighter than the Brits kept the secret of Ultra at Bletchley Park.
How much slower is it than the regular Rocket in 1/4 mile times. Is there anyone with high enough clearance that can ferret out this secret information. I just have to know.

I don't think anyone buys a R3T to drag race, so those numbers probably won't be out until some magazine does a road test and 1/4 miles are posted.. Maybe some brave soul will take one to the strip.. :)

Welcome future R3T rider!!! ...........Well lets see.......published numbers are the R3T making approx 108hp and the R3 standard/classic about 138hp. These of course are not RWHP numbers but it helps to get and idea. Torque rating are R3T around 140 ft/lb and the R3 around 135 ft/lb.

I absolutely could not imagine me riding another cruiser at the moment. It took me 2yrs to pick this bike out and much research. At first the R3T wasnt even out yet. Than during my "should I or shouldnt I" period, triumph introduced the R3T. I didnt even test drive it! just pulled the trigger!

The detuned engine is of course for safety. The suspension is more supple and the handling is much better than the standard. As stated the center of gravity is low so the bike handles very well for an 800lb (wet) bike, even at slow speeds. The tire size is 180 on the rear and the rake angle is pushed out a little. With the windscreens and hard bags i can see why this was detuned. But you can get most of this power back if desired. If you decide to purchase one....many threads exist. So back to the original question.......................................!

Not sure :D Power-tripp has been working in the racing feild for quite some time and has extensive knowledge in 1/4 mile times. I bet his guess would be very close. Ill throw out a number and guess somewhere in the low 12's. Anybody else wanna throw a number in there?

Good luck with your decision

I don't think the average guy will get better than mid 12's. Nobody wants to slam their bike that hard. Best published time I've see for the standard R3 is mid to high 11's.

Having put 15000 miles on an R3 and a few 100 on a R3T I'd concour that the R3T handles a bit crisper. It's suprising how much you can hustle it around-the Harley's don't have much of a chance of hanging on over 10 or so miles of twisties. That said-YMMV.
