R3T Fuel Overflow

After filling my gas tank this morning, I rode 40-50 miles to Phoenix International Raceway for a track day with our Viper. I parked the R3T in the sun and after a few hours, with the temperature around 90 degrees I noticed a small puddle under the bike.

Fuel was dripping from the overflow tube. I can understand fuel expanding in a full tank parked in the sun. But after a 40-50 mile ride, I was at least a gallon and a half from full. After moving the bike into the shade, the dripping stopped.

This is not a CA bike, so a clogged charcol canister is not the problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've experienced the same thing, and with more miles on the tank. It is worse when parked facing up hill, so the fuel is to the rear of the tank. I'm gonna' ask the dealer to take a look-see next week while the bikes in the shop for tear down and rebuild of transmission (2nd gear popping out) I'll let you know what he says.
 
Just a guess here. In the hot weather the gas produces more vapors in the tank, in turn the only escape is through the vent line. In the vent line the vapors condence and drip out on the ground. I work at a chemical plant so I'm used to pulling answers like that out of my ass, it ususally works pretty good.
 
I agree with your synopsis, but I don't believe there should be leakage of the degree I've seen with so much room in the tank for expansion. 8)
 
Yeah, I agree. The theory makes sense but with plenty of room in the tank why is the fuel making its way into the overflow?

Of all the bikes I've owned this is the first one to dribble on the ground. I'm thinking about diapers....
 
Personally speaking, I think you parked next to a Harley, and it pissed under your gas tank! :twisted: My wife's bike did that to mine several times, I caught it hiking it's rear wheel when I turned around to admire my Rocket!
