Oil drips from where drive shaft enters engine rear

Had the output shaft replaced back in May, about 8000 miles ago. Oil seapage just started from under the rubber boot where the drive shaft enters the engine. No sign of oil on starter motor yet; or, God forbid, rear wheel. A couple drops of oil on floor but stops with engine off. Seapage runs from under boot to rear leftside bolt hole under motor and drips from there. Thinking a seal must have gone bad - any ideas or experience with anything like this?
 
Nope, thats new to me.
Had my whole rear changed out in '07, but narry drop of oil from there yet.
Head gasket seeps but never lost a "drop" so far.
 
Check the tank badge, it may say Harley-Davidson. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Maybe it's marking its territory. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Take it back to the dealer. :? :wink:
 

I just recently had this exact same thing start happening with my 05 Standard...

initially I think I overfilled it with oil.. .but since then ive done an oil change.. and I still get the exact same kind of oil drip that youve explained??
 
Are you saying you had the torque shaft output bearing replaced? Others here had the same symptom as a precursor to bearing failure. Apparently play in the bearing allows the shaft to wallow out the seal.
Is it engine or final drive oil?
 
It is engine oil and, Yes, I had the output shaft (not just the bearing, the entire assembly) replaced approx. 8000 miles ago

ndgns1: What's your dealer saying about it? I wouldn't let it go for long

Took it to my dealer and the top tech there took a look and says seal needs to be replaced, which requires removing swing arm etc. There are two other RIIIs ahead of me for tear down, one for output shaft and one for transmission, so probably won't get to me for a couple/three weeks

Still love the bike to ride, but these issues are very frustrating. Less than 37,000 miles on her and since May output shaft replaced, ignition replaced and now this
 
atomsplitter: definitely says Triumph, so must think she's an old 650 Bonneville!
 
I hadn't taken it in to the dealer to check it out yet...

im a little frustrated with my current dealer now.. because Ive started hearing and noticing wierd sounds when I decelerate and the cluch pulled in.

I told them about it, they test rode it for about 7 miles and said they didn't notice anything wrong... heck... ive been riding this bike for about 2 years now.. I know there is something going on...urrgghhh... oh yea.. plus they charged me for it... and want to charge me again for another test ride!!!!

since the bike is out of warranty, I cant afford for them to be nickle and diming me everytime I need something checked out..

but eventually im going to have to give in again...

Im still loving my bike @ 60K miles on it... but I was tempted to trade it straight up for an 06 Vmax... :?
 
If it's a design failure, George, like the output shaft, Triumph will do it for free under a goodwill warranty. All the work I described above was done out of the 2 year warranty, although for the replacement of ignition, gas cap and seat lock, I did have to pay labour

They charged you to check out your bike? That is truly outrageous! You need a new dealer and hopefully there's one not too far from you
 
DCRocket: So how did you go about asking your shop to do work that was out of warranty?.. or did they just offer to do it. Ive heard of many people get the work done.. but I get this feeling that my main place I take bike too.. will not back me on out of warranty work..

thats why I may take it to the "super store"??

I believe there may be atleast about 3 triumph places fairly close to take it too..

the main shop I take it too.. is kinda a small shop, and I pretty much trust the guys there... but they do seem to nickle and dime me on everything...

there are a couple of motorcycle "super stores" around that deal with triumph.. I think I will take it there next.
