Nitrous?

ok just curious, I know there was someone using nitrous in the rocket before...

But That was a stock airbox system... I'm running triples, and would require a more complicated system....

not sure this is somethign I actually can or will do, but have seen very little discussion of it, and I'm always curious on ways to make more power..

I'm curious as well. I hear tell it can be an unnerving experience. A local HD owner had a 134BHP custom that he'd added a NOS system to. He says he road it once and immediately took it off. He says he could barely hold on to it. I take it the power doesn't quit til the shot/supply of NOS is exhausted. That might be hundreds of yard past your turn off or the T-bone intersection That's a Youtube boner waiting to happen

Today, nitrous does not have to be compicated, nor abrupt. If you are limiting the N2O power to half the power the engine makes naturally asperated, you should be fine - likely this is more than you will want.

I assume you are interested in a port injection system where each intake is supplied with N2O and enrichment fuel with either an injector or an oriface plate - stay away from bar injection plates on bikes. You will need to mount the injectors/plates downstream of the throttle bodies, or raw fuel/N2O can fill the area above the throttle bodies.

If you keep the solenoids close to the injectors or plates, you have less issues. You can restrict the flow with jets (pills) at either the injectors/plates or at the solenoid depending on where you want N2O vaporization to occur.

Use of a solenoid controller can allow you to adjust how abruptly the nitrous comes on by adjusting the pulsing of the solenoids - rather than a simple on/off switch. You will use a momentary (dead-man) switch, so that N2O is only injected while the switch is depressed. I recommend mounting a microswitch on the throttle cable so that the injection only occurs at WOT.

For enrichment fuel, you can use a completely seperate fuel system, or take fuel from the existing system if you have volume to spare (depending on mods done, and system pressure).

If you are going to add quite a bit of nitrous, you will also want to look into a form of ignition retard during injection. 3-4 degrees will generally work.

Call a few nitrous companies and companies that sell systems for bikes and discuss your needs and desires. This is not rocket science.... no pun intended.

HeR3tic - I don't understand your comment "until the shot is exhausted". Unless the system is very poorly designed, the fuel and N2O solenoids control the supply to the engine. Even if the lines between the solenoids and the injectors/plates are very long, the pressure drop when the solenoids close is nearly immediate (at least as far as a rider will be able to tell).

If you're not using it at the track, what's the point?

that is the point, I would be using it at the track. I have triple unifilters, velocity stacks, 3-1 Predators, no secondaries, and sams tune.. Barnett clutch.. blah blah blah... its fast, and launches hard, but I still seem to get taken on the far end of the track despite gettign an early lead out the gate, figure a shot or a 2 stage shot migth help some extra kick in the end....


the places Ive talked to all wanted to sell me a dry system utilizing my stock airbox.. I'm not bolting that crap back on!!!

a wet system as described above is what I want... and why, because I ocaisionally go to the local drag strip on what is known as grudge nights... and its run what you brung, no rules, beat the guy next to you, and I think a small edge would help me be more competitive against the lighter sport bikes, and I'm not lookign to spend 5- 6K on a turbo or supercharger, But if I could hide ( did I say hide? a bottle under my seat and have a lil extra Oomph it migth make things a bit more interesting...

oh and keep in mind a lot of HD riders ( not all) get scared easily when the power is on.. I seriously doubt they rigged the system to dump the full bottle of NOS in one shot ( wow) besides, just etting off the throttle would reduce the effect..

Ive twisted the throttle on mine enough that I think Ive stretched it some...

I'm contemplating a short (1/4?) throw throttle so I cna get on the gas even quicker, I really enjoy the drag racing, and its the rocket that makes it fun, I love launching out of the hole and blowing a Busa away... problem is they usaually catch me the last few feet of the track and lfy past...( sonofa)

You sound as though you are familiar with NOS. I'm recalling the comment of the HD owner...clearly his system was not all that fancy and apparently not regulated to the extent you speak of. For all I know, he was hanging on so tight that he couldn't reach to shut off the supply. Poorly designed or poorly applied.

do you think a system could be figured out and worked ? I know nothign about NOS..

and more importantly, would this be a better alternative, or shoudl I just pony up the cash for a set of Nevs cams, or keep savign my pennies for a Blower ??

And yes I realize a good used busa or similar is the best way to go drag racing....
