Has anyone tried the new avon av 72 240/50r/16 rear tire yet??? any input good or bad thanks,,,GRAY DOG

Yep, I have the Avons and they are holding up very well.. I have about 7,000 miles on them now and they have not squared off near as much as the Metzelers have at this point.
I believe Lonzol has Avons on "Blackie" as well. I like them enough that I actually sent an e-mail to Avon and they posted it on their testimonials page with a picture of my bike from RAA III taken by Gunshots.. Avon 2008

They appear to be of a harder wearing compound in the middle, which slows down wear, but it also makes it a bit harder to get traction with on hard launches. I would not recommend them for the drag strip. I've lit the rear tire up jumping on on-ramps to get on the Interstate. However, the tires have a softer compound on the sides and stick VERY well in the curves and I feel much more confident hitting curves at high speed on the Avons than I did on the Metz's. If you shop around, you can find them pretty close to the price of the Metzelers..

Someone will bring up the darkside, as they do on any tire thread... I have ridden behind several Rockets with car tires, and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed and would not count it out myself. However, I do really like my Avons.. and most likely will go with Avons again.

Yes, I have the Avons and I would only be able to echo what TxRIIIRider said. The rear hasn't squared off as fast as I thought it would and much more confidence in the turns than the Metzelers. I've only got about 3000 on mine but the rear looks really good. Just for comparison I put on fresh metz's for my 7400 miler last summer and they were both trash when I got back, (actually felt lucky to get home on the rear)! I also would agree that the rear will break loose in a straight line easier, also like he said. I would buy them instead of Metzelers every time.

Now TxRIIIRider quit saying stuff I have to agree with, I'm a fireman and we prefer to argue!!!!

I anxiously await the final assessment from both. When the Avon rear gets 20k+ per change I'll be converted to the thin light side I wouldn't mind having to change every 18 months.

Thanks for the input guys,,guess ill order the avon rear today,,4300 on the met. and wore out,(although i only get 4500 out of the dunlop rears on the harley) guess thats just the cost of playing on big heavy bikes, still worth it to me,,GRAY DOG

I seriously doubt 20K per change, but they are holding up well.. so might get closer? I've been averaging about 10K on the rear Metz, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less..

I'll also have to state that I haven't noticed any cupping on the front tire either so far. Although, my last Metz front didn't really cup either..

Hey.. you're copying me! Well, actually our bikes are on the opposite ends of the color spectrum.. lol

I have to wonder how in the world people like Hombre, or any super charged or turbo Rocket can get traction on the Metz, Avon or any motorcycle tire. I mean, I have lit the Metzeler up while doing about 40 MPH. I know Hombre runs Pirelli sport bike tires which are much softer, but he's also pushing 250 something or so lbs/ft of torque!

Avon....don't they make womens perfume?
