Need some ideas

Not Rocket related but a lot of talent here.I have a 1/4" impact driver that a socket shank twisted off and the square head is stuck in the driver any ideas?Drill&tap,drill in steps until I get close to 1/4" ?

its hard to image what u have. is the piece stuck over the impact anvil? or inside the socket?
if it is stuck on the impact i would lock the broken part in a vice and pry on the impact.
if the part is inside u might try take a piece of metal with a hole lay it over the part and weld the broken part to the medal then pry it of . may be tap lightly side to side. of coarse this is plan A i am usually up to plan D by the time i get it done.

@TURBO200R4 after coming in the house and sucking up some a/c for a while my brain started working again .took a left handed drill bit and got it to move a little held the driver toward the floor ,pulled on the lock ring and the broken piece fell right out .Thank you for your idea have used that before.
