McCuff Fuel Filler Collar

Friend at work bought a McCuff filler collar (as seen on TV). The package stated it fit all Triumphs. So we tried it out on my 2005 Rocket III. Below is the emails it generated:

"I tried a friend's standard Mccuff on my Triumph Rocket III and discovered the hinge on the fill cap does not allow the cuff to seat squarely on the tank. Would the "sport" version work better to avoid the hinge and seat on the tank? There's very little room between the gauges and the tank opening, so it needs to be a straight on shot. Thanks"

Huh? So you got the right one but it doesn't fit and they say that you have the right one anyway?

All I know is that when it was first featured on that terrific neanderthal reality show called American Chopper , Mikey "the intellectual" spilled gas all over someone's bike . That spot was promptly edited so the reruns show the mccuff working perfectly . I don't need one .
 
Juggs, I didn't order one until I saw how the standard fit (bad). The reply I got was the Sport is what I needed to order. I was assuming that I needed a notch cut out to permit going past the hinge. That was confirmed by Al CEO after Greg Pres answered (I got email responses from McCuff in quick succession). I ordered a "sport" version that accomodates the hinge ordered. I'll find out if I'm as much a Neanderthal as Mickey Tuetul after I get it. I figure for $20.00 if I can stop the go juice from splashing on the tank (I carry cleaner and rags to mop up the mess every fueling) it's a cheap fix and faster than the hand/wrist exercise I get at the pump trying to top up. Now if it actually works as advertised (won't know until after a few trials) I'll be pleasantly surprised. I also suggested they put an application guide on the website for those of use not willing to gamble on "one size fits all." They also noted the "sport" version was made with the Triumph in mind. Funny the standard's packaging would lead you to believe otherwise.
 
Don't you read the pump handles, you're not supposed to top off...
 
I can't read that, nor "off-road use only" on TORs either. I was the kid that spindled his IBM cards that were not to be "bent, folded, spindled, or mutilated."
 
All, please check Aerostich. They sell a device named E-Z Fill Nozzle, Catalogue # 2818. Cost is $8!! This is the best device I have come across, and takes up no space in either jacket pocket or tank bak
 
I had never heard of this before so I just looked it up, saw the video of the OCC guys demo the McCuff.

First, where do you store the thing while riding? Do you really want to toss a gasoline smelling hunk of plastic in your panniers or tank bag after filling up?

Second, is this really necessary? I just put the tip of the gas nozzle under the inner ring of the tank (the one with the holes in it) and lean the nozzle towards the pump. It almost stays there by itself but I always hold it to be safe. The nozzle kicks out when the fuel hits that ring. I can give it another squeeze or two, not even a few tenths of a gallon, but after that it will overflow so why bother? I've never had fuel splatter on the tank while filling or when the nozzle kicks off.

The thing seems like a gimmick to me.
 
Just do that and cup your hands around it, all good.
