Yesterday I rode an R3 for the first time and it was fantastic beyond words!
I hope to learn all that's wise to know about these motorcycles before entering
into ownership. I look forward to being involved here.

Depends on how you choose to ride?
Buy one as new as you can afford. The previous rider's treatment of the motor is important.
If you love to fang & hoon, I'd suggest a Roadster, new or low mileage above a 2010 model.
If you are a comfy cruiser, don't push to your's or the motor's limits, and like passengers, the Touring may best suit you.
Note that the Roadster can easily be set up for cross-country touring. I've done it many times with my 2012 R3R.
