FRONT TIRE

I know there are hundreds of posts regarding tires.....

Got 11000km (6800mi)on my rear and it needs to be changed.

Question is that my front one is starting to show visible cupping. It's been noisy on leaning and had an obvious flat spot for about 3000km. I'm really not convinced it will last another rear.

How much more life should I expect from that front one after it starts to show cupping? Should I change both?

Anyone rode their rear ones past this? (See pictures)

That back will need changing - going to be very prone to punctures.

This wear pattern isn't specific to the R3, I'm finding the same cupping on my other bikes now just out of interest - which side of the road do you ride & which side is cupping?

Both sides are cupping evenly.

We ride on the left with cupping on the right side, but that's not going to help you

I had more tread than that and in 140 miles it was white cord all the way around, the rubber was even shredding off the carcass. As for the front, I have 6K on it and it too is starting to whine in the curves. Crap tires. 5800 on rear 1st time through, working on 3600 on third tire.

Duh, you need two new tires. You ride for fun right? Isn't it more fun when it is all working right? Or do you enjoy the adventure of crashes or punctures. (Rhetorical ques. of course you don't, I'm not trying to be rude). It is false economy to try to get another thousand miles out of a tire, when over the life of the bike you may only hope to reduce your total costs by one or two sets of tires, but you dramatically increase your chance to have a mishap, which usually involves buying a new tire, but at higher prices and with a days ride all messed up. Put new tires on and go enjoy them. (And looking at that rear I would suggest you unhitch the sidecar and enjoy the twisties once in a while! :lol: :lol: )

I asked this because I thought it was the norm that you change the rear more often than the front. I have heard people going 3 rear for one front... On my other bike it was 2 for 1.

Alberta doesn't have twisties.... unfortunately.... Tire pressure has always been as written on the bike.

I was planning to have both changed anyway, just wanted to make sure. The rear was a-ok right before leaving for Montana. I could see this thing wearing from day to day! At some point I was wondering if I would even make it back home!

RAPIDEO, Cupping is when you start having flat spots on the side of the tire, the flat spots follow the thread.
