I have been going through various posts, but haven't found anything to quite what I am experiencing, the exhaust leak at the header and and cat delete pipe is now fixed and sealed, no other exhaust leaks. My issue has been going on for just over a year,
- 2010 RIII Touring
- Jardine Exhaust
- Ram Air
- removed the PCV
- disconnected the Auto Tune
- removed the Scorpio alarm system
- The coil leads were crimped last year when I had to replace the cam chain guides and some valve shims, also changed the cam chain at the same time
- Installed the Hanso tune that I have been using for years without issue, no O2 sensor selected
- spark plugs and ignition wires, fuel filter were also replaced when doing the valve shims
- Ran the 12 minute adaptation
The issue was happening before i did all of this, so what is happening is,
- Start the bike and it idles and runs fine, idles at 850ish RPM
- as I'm driving in the lower gears, if I come down on the throttle, i get a lot of back firing, but engine still sounds as though it is running fine, just a lot of racket
- if the the clutch is in, i don't get any back firing
- in the upper gears 4th, 5th highway speeds, if I come off the throttle, i get the usual burbling but no back firing until i gear down to the lower gears, then the fun starts with back firing again
- heading onto the highway, starting from first, if I go hard on the throttle, the sound is normal and it pulls like the freight train it is, but suddenly the engine will cut out for a fraction of a second, then come back and pull some more, then do it again, will do this through 2nd gear as well, but in higher gears such at 4th and 5th I think it only cut out once maybe, but for the most part it doesn't seem to do this like in the lower gears, it just pulls like a monster
- If I accelerate like a "normal" person I don't get the engine cutting out, but the back firing remains on decel.
I know I'm going to have some back firing on decel, I always have, but not to the extent and loudness that I'm getting now
I was thinking it could have something to do with a faulty coil, but when the engine cuts out, it is a complete cut, and I would think that if it was a coil it should be cutting out consistently when the engine is under a load through all of the gears. and i'm thinking that instead of completely cutting out, it should run like crap briefly in those instances It is sort of the same thing regarding vacuum lines, i have checked them and seem fine, if they were suspect, then they should be leaking whether I'm under load or not and causing issues
I guess on the plus side i make all the kids driving around in the little rice steams envious, apparently the more loud back firing you do, the cooler you are, I don't get it, but hey I'm old
