Burning oil smell

My 3R has always used oil- about 1 qt/2k miles.

Immediately after a ride, or sometimes at a red light, I can smell oil. I'm not a connoisseur, but it seems somewhere between hot and burning.
It goes away before I can locate it and there are no visual signs of a leak. Note: I have in the past had issue with one from the gear position sensor o rings.
I've never seen smoke from the exhaust or oil under the bike.

Anyone else experience this smell and, if so, do you find that you have to add oil between oil changes?
