I am sure you Florida Captains are used to 80 degree weather, but here in Washington State (Bremerton/Seattle) we have not had one day over 60 degrees for the last 6 months, until today.
I had made an appointment with the vinyl window guy to come over and give me an estimate to replace all my windows. The appointment was at 10:00. When he got here it was already 60 degrees so I told him he had 60 minutes to give me his speech and then I was out of there headed for North Shore of Hood Canal. He was real good about it and was done in about 50 minutes, I think I will buy his windows just because he knew a little bit about Triumph and used to own a Bonniville himself. But, he doesn't ride anymore cause being a contractor all his life he is pretty screwed up physically, that's why he does the selling now and not the installing. I told him I got aches and pains to, but when I'm on the Rocket nothing hurts.
Anyway, I took out of here headed for Belfair and hood canal. A couple of weeks ago I took a cold ride around South Shore, so decided to head down North Shore this time. I knew that North Shore was closed to through traffic, heavy road damage for this winters rains, so figured I wouldn't get farther than Belfair State Park.
Took the Old Belfair Highway from Bremerton to get in a few twisties. Man were there a lot of bikes out. Caught up with a few "Bikers" about half way to Belfair. Came up on the fast and then hung back. They couldn't figure out what those Bug Eyes were behind them. Had a chance between twisties and blew by them. I was getting tired of choking on their smoke.
In my opinion, those ape hangers look really uncomfortable.
When I got to Belfair, there were about 50 bikers headed down North Shore coming from the other direction. At the 4 way stop, I crept into the middle of the pack. That was fun. They couldn't tell if I was part of their group or not. They took turns getting close to see what I was riding. I just acted like I was suppose to be there, giving then the peace sign and all that.
When we got about 5 miles down North Shore the road was closed to through traffic and detoured. The group just kept going, like they didn't even see the signs. OK I thought, Belfair doesn't have enough cops to give us all a ticket, so I just held by spot. What a beautiful ride. Didn't matter that I was with a bunch of Harley's, they were nice folks and didn't kick me to the curb, although I expected to see several shoulder holsters when we stopped in Tahuya. They all took the exit to Dowatto, and I have a leisurely ride back. What a beautiful day. Temp. at the Fairgrounds read 82 degrees when I arrived back in Bremerton.
Any other Captains take advantage of today's weather? Love to hear of your travels.
Drive safe....
