    Interesting problems, phantom random anything is not good. I'll take it off the trickle and measure voltage after a few days and see what happens.

    Many thanks for all your responses, comments and ideas. @sonny you are right, I should have tended the bike better over the winter and start on a regular basis @Boog @Tripps I measured the battery voltage and it was 12.48V, so was way under where it should have been.     The charger was connected and charging for last 5 weeks. Which is why I thought that the cranking speed would have been faster. I will check the battery voltage.
