    Mystery Driveline Issue

The chatter stops if I pull in clutch. The behavior is only evident during slow speeds in 2nd or 3rd gear with the bike hot. On my bike unless I have the free play in the cable less than spec'd, the tranny won't easily go into neutral. Since the clutch doesn't slip under full power I believe...

    Mystery Driveline Issue

I and the guy I got the bike from have multiple bikes so never get too many miles on any one. Don't believe there is any oil issue b ut anything is possible. Bike is running 15W-50 M1. With so many issues with the early year R3's I get a little paranoid that any odd behavior is something big.

    Mystery Driveline Issue

2005 R3 with 26K miles. 3rd owner. I have had bike for a few years. Live in Florida and weather is close to 90F. When the engine gets hot I'm getting some odd slow speed drive-line behavior. I cannot tell if the issue is possibly a clutch or an output bearing problem. When going slow in 2nd or...

    2005 Speedometer dissassembly info

My speedometer vibrates up/down way more than the tachometer. I have to open the gap between my clock pod. I want to be able to tighten up the mounting hardware but I'm unsure how to get the reset knob off. Since the bike is very old I really don't want to over-stress the knob getting it off...

    Fun w/ a FZ1

Reality is a good thing for those who have never ridden a sport bike and think they can easily beat one on a 11.5ish R3. It can keep you from making a mistake or do something foolish. There are a number of cars prowling the street that will destroy an R3 once they get rolling. The R3 is pretty...

    Fun w/ a FZ1

Yellow sounds like a Gen 1 FZ1. The Gen 2 stock is capable of 10.5 sec 1/4 mile. I had one for a while. It would easily beat my R3....

    Aftermarket oil filters.

A manufacturer and part number is insufficient. A few companies make most of the filters. The end cap was changed on a large number of filters and they won't seal properly on the R3. You have to look before buying unless you want a leak....

Off Idle Throttle Response when Warm

I will look into it tomorrow. When I did the plugs I removed two of the ignition coils. I did not disconnect the hidden one in front. Getting under the tank is a pain since the clamps for the clock and fuel gauge are corroded. I know at some point one is going to crack. At that point I'm going...

Off Idle Throttle Response when Warm

I believe I did it a while ago when I loaded the tune you recommended. I can check and do it again.

Off Idle Throttle Response when Warm

2005 R3 with 25K miles. The off idle throttle response of my bike changes once the bike warms up. When cold it is crisp and sharp. When warm it is not. More like a slight stumble or like it has "loaded up". Bike seems fine other than that. Fan comes on when you would expect so temp sensor seems...

Arresting aluminum oxidation on forks, triple clamps and shocks

Most don't understand that metals like aluminum and stainless need oxygen to cause the metal to form a protective oxide layer. Deprive either of oxygen and add a corrosive or galvanic source and the metal will hyper corrode. The clear coat is a double edge sword. It protects the aluminum as long...

Arresting aluminum oxidation on forks, triple clamps and shocks

Bike has lived it's entire life near the ocean in FL. I'm the 3rd owner. 25K miles. Paint was immaculate but the chrome was a bit rough and there was some cancer in the clear coated aluminum. I cleaned up the chrome as best as I could and bought some used OEM mirrors. I decided to attack the...

    engine oil seeping problem

    engine oil seeping problem

Make sure you do not have the wrong design oil filter. A few years ago oil filters were redesigned by the few manufacturers that make a bunch of different brands. The threaded end cap on the new design causes leaks on some engines. Basically the filter "bottoms out" before compressing the seal...

2005 TR3 Roadster TORS no CAT

I did had a random stall problem when I first got the bike. Part of the problem was the tune and part was my "technique" when coming to a stop. The R3 doesn't have the same flywheel mass of a big V twin. Upping the idle in the tune and keeping the revs up before I put my feet down helped a lot.

2005 TR3 Roadster TORS no CAT

As far as I can tell my bike is fine. No stumbles or any issues that would point to a fueling problem. I wish there was something wrong. It is not as quick as I would like it to be. I have yet to see a 1/4 mile run of a "stock" R3 that can break into the low 11's. Every review shows 11.5 - 12.2...

2005 TR3 Roadster TORS no CAT

It's been a while since I reported back. I probably have 2000 miles on the bike since I got it. The "new" tune did wonders as far as diminishing backfiring on decel. I cannot tell if performance was significantly improved. As far as my buddies 201x Harley 110 CVO Fat Bob with CAM, intake, pipes...

    Your Opinion Of "Liquid Glass"

A "clay bar" consists of an abrasive media suspended in artificial clay. You can get low or high abrasive types. You can also use it with liquid rubbing compound to "up" the abrasiveness. It's really good at removing debris stuck to paint or over spray. It must be used with soapy water or some...

    Engine sputtering and backfiring

I'll say it again, $20 for a TuneECU compatible adapter. Go borrow any old POS Windows desktop or laptop. People are literally throwing away old Win XP machines and CRT monitors. TuneECU does not need to be installed. The program runs out of the folder it is put in. It does not get any cheaper...
