  1. The Official Rocket Across America IV Thread

Ratboy, When I recommended Chimney Rock, I was thinking that it is a little more motorcycle friendly than Boone/Blowing Rock. I think the hotel in Chimney Rock seems to be a little more bike friendly also and that the price would be better. There is also a motorcycle retail business in Chimney...
  2. The Official Rocket Across America IV Thread

I live in NC and have ridden the Dragon as well as other parts of the Smokies. On pages 2-4 of this thread, I made comments about the riding. I haven't stayed at the Geneva Riverside in Lake Lure/ Chimney Rock but the town is a neat place (see my previous comments) and seems well priced. Lots of...

This is a good motel in Lake Lure for bikers according to the locals. I haven't stayed there but the rates seem reasonable, especially for that location. It has a good bar called the Tiki that is part of the business. It's no Hilton but what the hell. Click here: Geneva Riverside Lodging...

Skip, click on the link below and slide the map around. You will see Little Switzerland on the Parkway. Go southwest on the Parkway until you see Hwy 80 heading south. it goes down the mountain and at a point picks up the Toe River running long side it. This is my favorite ride. I take it and a...

I missed it. What is the Pig Trail? The Parkway has great views and the best ones are in the areas around Mt. Mitchell. The Parkway has some pretty good curves, but the roads that come off the Parkway in that area are steep compared to the Dragon and the curves are very good. I don't recall a...
  6. The Official Rocket Across America IV Thread

You're right. It's hard to satisfy both requirements. What I like about this place is that you can make a good day trip to places like Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, or in the other directon Blowing Rock-Boone, where you can find some good restuarants with good beer(one or two at the most for me...
  7. The Official Rocket Across America IV Thread

In my previous post yesterday, I stated that "Robbinsville'" was a short ride from Little Switzerland. That was incorrect. The town I was thinking of is "Burnsville" which is west of Spruce Pine. Sorry bout that.
  8. The Official Rocket Across America IV Thread

I have stayed at this place a couple of times in the last two years. It is about 100 yards off the Blue Ridge Parkway, half way between Boone, NC and Asheville, NC. It is located right in the middle of some of the best riding country I have ever seen. I have ridden the Dragon and I will take it...
  9. Warranty End & Oil Change Saga

Thanks TO Rocket, That's been said a few times already and it might very well be true. If it is, we just need to get Triumph to agree and remove the 5.4 remark, to disregard the max line on the dipstick, and tell us in a bulletin that we can put all the oil we want in it. And Im getting...
  10. Warranty End & Oil Change Saga

According to the service manual, the earlier engines had the tank drain plug (1) in the same place as the newer engines but drain plugs 2 & 3 were horizontal instead of vertical underneath the engine like my 06. I even laid on my back with the service manual properly oriented to make sure I...
  11. Warranty End & Oil Change Saga

HeR3tic, The issue is that my oil change required only 5 liters of oil instead of the 5.4 that the manual states that you need for an oil and filter change. Just the 5 liters put my oil level approximately 1/4 inch above the max mark. If I had used 5.4 liters it would have been very high above...
  12. Warranty End & Oil Change Saga

Thanks Pig9r, I understand about the sump and, as indicated above, I have checked the oil after shutdown, idling, etc. No matter how I check the oil, it is still 1/4" above the mark with only 5 liters instead of what the manual says (5.4). That coincides with the amount of oil that I got back...
  13. Warranty End & Oil Change Saga

The warranty ended on my 06 Rocket yesterday and I did my first (DIY) oil change Friday (two years and 9,136 miles) . I wanted the dealer to do the others during the warranty period just so there would be no finger pointing if something went wrong. I think oil changes have been previously...
  14. Rear Hypoid Oil

The Mobil 1 Racing 4t 10W/40 (the oil that I saw in quart size at AutoZone) is one of the recommended oils in the Triumph service manual. I suspect that the dealers , at least in this area, stick to the same Racing 4t 15W/40 because, as far as I know, that viscosity only comes in the 5 litre...
  15. Rear Hypoid Oil

Hombre, In your original post on this topic, you stated that Triumph says use "95W/90". I suspect that you mistyped and meant 75W/90. My Triumph service manual says use "Mobilube 1 SHC 75W/90 fully synthetic hypoid oil or equivalent". I guess this manual was printed at least four years ago...
  16. Exhaust upgrade

Thanks Raymond, Sounds like you're pretty pleased with your setup.:)
  17. Diagnostics

Thanks Toystoretom! As I was browsing through my service manual I was hoping to come upon what you just told me but never came upon anything about OBD II. Well, at least maybe I'll be able to solve a few problems with my scanner (hope there won't be any). :)
  18. Diagnostics

Thanks Bigern, I'm surprised that you were even able to plug it in and get anything. I'll bet the scantool could work if somehow it could recognize the total protocol. It says in he service manual that the memory card is removable. for updates.....hm.:)
  19. Diagnostics

Got my R3 service manual today and was browsing through the diagnostics section. Don't laugh too hard but I wonder if there is any way, adapter or whatever, to make my AutoXray 6000 OBD 1 & 2 scantool do what the Triumph diagnostic tool does on the bike. The fault codes sure look similar. I...
  20. Exhaust upgrade

Thanks Tx. you would think it would get better mileage running more efficiently.
