Do it yourself and hope it still works when done.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

The friction plates have a painted end tab to differentiate the 2 different types in their respective end locations. I don't think they painted tabs have to be oriented any specific way rotation-wise as the inner and outer baskets will be in a different orientation constantly while in use. The...

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

I'm suspecting surface issues based on the darker markings on the steel plates.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

Semantics, call it what you like it doesn't change what's going on here. Anyone looking at the exploded diagram will know what I'm talking about. I'm just going to put all the new components in the basket and be done with it.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

None of the 8 main pressure plates have grooves on either side and neither does the one special one that goes in the back. The groove doesn't look machined either but more like an impression.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

I'm not using it, the splines on the drive shaft are one thing but this is pretty well lubed so no. I will give all the new plates a nice coating of oil though before reassembly.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

Am replacing the roller bearing while I'm in there. I do have a tube of that expensive Honda assembly paste for splines but since all this slops around in oil anyhow it's probably pointless.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

The manual says to line up the 2 teeth on the flywheel that have the marks before inserting the locking pin to lock the crankshaft. I think it’s a waste of time to try to get those exact teeth since I'm not doing valave adjustments so any 2 teeth should do.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

The inner basket moves with the shaft.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

I'm starting to think that the dealer actually never did anything other than taking the cover off. The mechanic there said he doesn't remember taking the center nut and whole clutch out which is apparently necessary according to the first shop I called. After removing the 3 tension bolts and...

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

So I called the Triumph shop that got in there before and they said that they did not mess with the center nut only the 3 bolts holding the plates in. I will go back to it this weekend and update as I go.

Question about Noise while releasing clutch

It probably would have by now, both times the dealer messed with it the noise was gone for 600mi and then returned. They never replaced anything though.
