Also removing the nut from the stud. I think a induction gun would work great for this, you could do it while its on the bike and probably not have the stud come out.

I actually ordered some fine thread nuts for that project, To do the double nut thing,but I got lucky and just the acorns came off.
 
I wonder does it really need to take off pegs and starter motor cover. Could it be done without that extra job?

Edit: Ah, there is that one bolt through cover and plastic.

Only takes a minute to get the starter cover off anyway so not to much hassle.
 
Here it is, its not perfect since I did all the editing on my phone but it will do.

Thanks for that. I did the rear splines, but never even thought about the front. Dumb. I'll get them next tire change. Having access to the front u joint makes it easier to get the rear in. I used some string to lift it.
