Rocket 3 tourer 07
Hi guys, back here again with a different issue.
My rocket 3 has recently had a an engine swap from a 2007 engine to a 2005 with 5000 miles on the clock. Bike was runng great and covered 1600 miles around Scotland nc500 without issue.
Due to a house move I've had to store the bike outside for about 3 weeks till I put a shed up which it is now in. When I came to start it up it fired up as usual for about 30 secs then stuttered and died and whilst it'll turn over it won't fire (it did try once for all of a second). I thought maybe given it was outside water could have gotten it the tank so I've drained all the old fuel but couldn't see water other than a bit where the excess fuel drain is on the tank. I've put 5 fresh litres of E5 in it with some redex but still won't start. What I've noticed however if I try to turn the bike over without twisting the throttle the exhausts are clear, if I twist the throttle whilst trying to start it emits white smoke anything else I can check for?

The hole that drains water is on the left side and the front tube with a hose that dumps water to the ground so if that tube or hose is plugged it will let water enter the tank.
No matter how many times you change gas u will still have fuel in the fuel rail
1i would use starting fluid to.try to get it to fire and maybe keep it running long enough to burn the gas in the fuel rail.
Once it gets warmed up it will burn old gas if it is not real bad.

Thanks turbo I'll give that a go

So I've tried the starter fluid a few times, it fires and turns over for about 2 seconds and then dies again. I'm not very savvy as you've probably already sussed but could it be a fuel blockage somewhere and it's not getting fuel thus not starting (though is does smoke when trying to crank it)

It's likely your fuel pump or the fuel filter. Start with replacing the filter and see if that does it. If not your fuel pump may need replaced.

Now is the time if you are planning on keeping the bike and stay away from outside repairs to get some more specialized tools.

I've not had mine long, so I'm not sure. Have you got fuel pressure? Have you checked the pressure regulator?

in trying that starter what we have learned is that the electrical system is working and the injectors are on the same 12 volt supply.
now to figure out about the gas
choice bad gas*** water in gas*** fuel pump***flooding.
there is one test you can do is a flood test. hold the throttle wide open and do a few revolutions' then slowly start to close while still cranking it may start and rev very high.
i think that if it was mine i would use the starting fluid several times to try to get that stuff in the fuel rail out of there so it will run on the new gas.
THIS WAS TYPED A WHILE ago SORry caps
going home now

Without a fuel pressure check it's hard to diagnose the exact problem. If you can get a pressure reading when the pump pressurizes the fuel rail, it would help find the problem.

I am thinking that there was a factory clamp on the hose at the fuel rail
and i think that i cut off that clamp with a die grinder and replaced it with a 1/4 wide hose clamp (you might think a 1/2 wide will work better but no it won't)
and that is where i check fuel pressure.
if the key has been on the fuel will spray
