I can't comment, having never spoken to anyone who was dead.

I thought most modern shocks had nitrogen under pressure in them. May not be safe to open up ?

They are stock length with the heavy duty springs. I'll have to measure the eye to eye length. I'll do that tomorrow and post it up. Thanks Bill !

The left shock is leaking. It was kind of a relief. When I saw the oil on the floor my first thought was diff. It didn't smell like diff oil, so then I thought front u-joint spline seal. Shocks are cheaper and easier than either one of those problems.

According to what I'm reading online, their supply of repair parts for the now obsolete 440's have been exhausted. I have an inquiry into Progressive to see what they have to say. I do have the receipt for them. They are 16 years old so unlikely to have any warranty left.

There are suspension places that can rebuild about anything, but they charge something like $200-$500 a shock, plus shipping both ways. I will likely end up just replacing them.

That's what I always thought. I have an inquiry sent off to Progressive but haven't heard back yet. From what I can gather from the interwebs, because the 440's are discontinued there are no longer parts available to rebuild them. I'll see what they have to say.

My Progressive 440's have failed (leaking). They no longer make 440's. Does anyone have a recommendation for some good (new) shocks that don't require a second mortgage ?

So do I have to make a reservation or do we rent the whole thing and divide it up our own selves ?
