  1. Headlight Discussions

I think that because I'm in Arizona I don't have a problem with the lights being on during the start (its normally not very cod here). I added the LED Daymaker headlights which also lowers the current used and I added a relay to bypass the ignition and route the load through the relay. All my...
  2. Headlight Discussions

I have the daymakers on order. Should be here on Tuesday April 14th. In the mean time my ignition took a crap. I found the the power wire in and the wire out to fuse #9 were no longer soldered. So I fixed the solder joint and added a relay so there is very little current going through the...

I just found out that I have a broken lens on my R3. So I'm thinking about upgrading to better lighting, any thoughts on the Daymakers VS the JW Spekers LED lights? I am not concerned with the cost, just looking for something the is better than the stock candles. I have HID fog lights to...
  4. Changing oil tank

Simon, I've had luck pulling the oil tank without removing the throttle bodies. I just loosen the hose clamps between the throttle bodies and the intake. This allows lifting the throttle bodies enough to get the oil tank out. Cuts down on time and the quantity of items to remove and reinstall...
  5. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

What I need to do now is convince myself I can go a week without my bike and have the tank coated on the inside. I just don't do well without my Rocket, it's like loosing a limb. I'm also concerned that the paint job will get screwed up.
  6. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

Hello all. It looks looks the white stuff was caused by the ethanol and other additives. It attacked the plating on the bracket that holds the fuel pump, filter etc. I figured it out by soaking some metal parts with similar plating in ethanol, denatured alcohol, stabil etc (all separately)...
  7. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

I understand that keeping the gas tank full will help prevent condensation and therefore corrosion. Without having a gas pump in my garage, its just not possible to keep the tank full for overnight parking. For the last 7 years I have rode the bike to work almost every day. 60 miles a day, which...
  8. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

I ride every day and fill the tank whenever the idiot light comes on. The bike has never been in storage and has never gone more than 2 days without being ridden. I think the biggest problem and cause is the new fuels. The fuel tank frame that holds the fuel pump, regulator and filter has a...
  9. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

Well I did the fuel pump test and it revealed nothing as described by Pjsmithres. It did reveal another problem though. I'm not sure this is a cause of the hesitation or studder, but it surely isn't helping anything. I will figure out how to get the rust out and replace the bad...
  10. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

This is great information! Thanks! I have a new fuel pump, pressure regulator and filter in my shop. I'm thinking about pulling the tank and swapping these parts, but I'm curious how an over filled tank would cause a problem? Can I open the tank and blow through the vent lines? The temp here...
  11. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

Ok, short update... Wasted $177 on new O2 sensor and $12 on Seafoam. Still stumbling! The K&N filter is cleaned regularly, but to eliminate I cleaned it again yesterday. I can't afford to keep shotgunning parts, the only remaining items are expensive. I know the only reputable shop and the...
  12. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

The symptoms cam on suddenly but intermittent. She would run fine for a week or two then the symptoms came on suddenly with the same severity every time. Now its constant.
  13. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

It acts like an old carburetor with a clogged idle jet (if that make sense). If I am gentle with the throttle from idle to over 2000rpm, there are no issues. If I'm aggressive under 2000rpm it hesitates and studders until I get over 2000rpm. The really odd part is that nothing has been wrong...
  14. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

I'm not familiar with turning off the O2 sensor. I'd have to read up and see if or how to do it with tuneboy. The data loader shows the MAP sensor reading and it appears the same as my friends RIII Touring (since the manual gives no readings). My O2 sensor on idle is reading .95 when the RIII...
  15. Engine studder below 2000 RPM

Me too! I just changed the spark plug wires and verified that the coils are securely wired. I swapped the position of two of the coils to see if anything changes. If this doesn't help I guess I will have to purchase the O2 sensor.
