They have a pretty throaty (albeit quiet) sound with the stock pipes. As shown in the pic, I have British Customs Hog Slayers on mine. I really like them because they're not much louder than stock at idle, but they really bark if you twist the throttle whilst going through the gears. It's very unique. I'm sure the untrained ear would say it sounds like a Harley, but I'm here to tell you it's FAR from sounding like a Harley. I should know, I've owned more Harleys than most folks have owned bikes.
The Hog Slayers also have a mechanical baffle so there's never a need to re-pack them. They're also highly polished stainless steel, not chrome plated so any minor blemish you might get can be polished out.
