Throttle Position Sensor

As I understand it, when adjusting the TPS, you turn it until the voltage is .6
When having my tuneboy hooked up the bike, the voltage readout doesn't change a bit!
I noticed to get a different reading, I had to go out of the "sensor" view, but this was still **** difficult to get any reliable reading. I thought I would just be able to twist the sensor and the readout would change accordingly. Any helpful insight? Or does this comprise a bad TPS?

I don't have tuneboy , so take this with a grain
of salt suggestion .

IF you are still dealing with "P638 code error

and your NOT getting a reading I'd say you found the problem ,
if its suppose to have a reading and it doesn't .

DON'T take my word for it , get second opinion
from a tuneboy owner .

You did loosen the tork screw, didn't you? Mine is so sensitive the voltage will change just by pressing on it with the anchor screw tight. The voltage will return to the first read when the pressure is relieved. I agree with Hombre, if yours doesn't change it is probably bad.

I haven't had an error read since that first one.

The voltage would not change at all when I moved the sensor, either with the bike running or not (but still keyed on). I moved it back and forth with no change. If I opened the throttle, the 'percentage open' did change.

So I just moved it all the way forward (from its install position) and it seemed to run fine. I took a trip of about 80 miles. At 60 miles (up higher in elevation) it started dying everytime I let go of the throttle. When I came back down in elevation and as I got home, everything seemed fine again.

10 months of riding and 20,000 miles

So I need to confirm the TPS is bad (and possibly the barometer?)

Something is not correct, and I doubt that it's your Baro sensor. Sorry, I don't have TuneBoy on the Mac Notebook I travel with, so have to do this from memory...

Follow the instructions in R3 manual for replacing TPS exactly, except use TB instead of Triumph tool. The TPS does not go completely in one direction to install... the initial voltage reading must be set correctly. Also, you must ensure throttle plates are completely closed and reset ISV as described in manual. It is doubtful that you have another bad Throttle Position Sensor.

Is there a menu item in Tuneboy for setting the throttle position sensor ? Something that tells the idle stepper to close the throttles all the way ? If so how do you get to it ?

I recently did this adjustment with TuneECU so I will assume that it is similar with TuneBoy.

On the Sensors page of TuneBoy, there is a command near the bottom of the page for "Reset ISCV". This will take you through the adjustment process.

My understanding is that that stands for "Idle stepper control voltage". I used that command yesterday and it makes the idle stepper motor cycle.

Yeah Fred it sets the stepper motor ( Pm'd you that stuff a week or 2 ago?) BUT on the sensors page ( where reset ISCV is) you can see the initial TPS voltage (2nd column 2nd reading) If it's way off 0.6volt you have to manually reset it by loostening the Tq's screw & gently rotate the TPS head til the reading is right. Hold it steady & re tighten the screw up ( some say a plastic washer added is a good idea too) Assuming you can retighten the bolt & not lose the good reading, then reset the ISCV , following the prompts on the scrolling screen.

Hi Bones ! It's very possible you did I am a CRS sufferer. What I'm wondering is this. If I have the key on so I can read the TPS voltage, isn't the idle stepper going to have the butterflies open some ? Or do we consider idle position "zero" for the TPS ?

Engine is OFF remember.. just the key on so no butterflies are shut, TP is zero ( might read 0.3-0.7ish%)
