Sounds like typical media fear mongering, I didn't see a single example or case. If you can't detect them and the bike is stolen, gone, how would you know? I also laugh at all the people that cover their plate in Craigslist ads, especially when it's a $1200 bike.

That's what insurance is for. A thief will get your bike if they want it bad enough

I thought about electrified alarms that make the seat electrocute a potential thief...but knowing me I'd forget to turn it off...Alas, insurance is my best defense and ride the heck out of it while I still got it.
