A few years ago the speedometer on my '06 Rocket Classic stopped working. I fiddled with the harness, relays and fuses and was eventually convinced that something internal crapped out and nothing short of a new gauge would fix it. So, not willing to spend $500 plus for the only new or used gauge I could find anywhere, except eBay, I installed a cheap GPS speedometer which works fine but small and hard to read. Well, I must have hit a pothole that the gauge liked because for approx. 200 miles during a jaunt yesterday around San Diego County the dead gauge came back to life and worked perfectly. I imagine I will sooner or later hit a pothole that will kill it again.
PS It now occurs to me that the last thing I did to the bike that may have had an effect(?) on the speedo is the Digital Dawg keyless ignition that I installed several weeks ago. Since I rarely pay any attention to the speedo or any of the gauges other than the fuel gauge, and depend more on the seat of my pants for speed feedback, maybe the speedometer started working back then and I didn't know it. Anyway, happy to see the gauge working for however long it works.
