You are right - that would definitely make it easier. Not sure I feel confident enough to try that (esp with travel tomorrow). Will try to muster up some courage next weekend

It's only 3 M8 (I think) Allen head bolts. I didn't disconnect the wiring but it definitely made it easier to see everything. I lay it on a small toolbox that I placed under it. That splash guard must have been a pain in the ass to take off while attached

Nah - the splash guard was easy to get to since the screws face towards the back (not towards the wheel)
