Les asked me to do a bit of a write up once I had bolted up the Pretech 6 pot calipers, first i must say I have never suffered from the well known sinking spongy brake lever syndrome many here have reported, and I had always thought the Rocket brakes were reassonable. Any others that have fitted these up feel free to add comments.
Fronts compared: The bonus they weighed up almost 1/2 kg lighter against the stock pair
Well after a good month of riding a few NZ roads it looks like we have brakes more than suitable for pushing the envelope on this heavyweight fighter and the most pleasing part is ammount of lever pressure needed on the brake to haul up this behemoth, it now seems almost effortless against the stock set up. Lever travel has reduced and the lever has an instant solid feel to it unlike the stockers.
Rear brake I asked Les for the under slung brake carrier bracket, this mounted up fine although I did need to machine 2mm from the rear wheel spacer as the rear caliper to disc running clearance was marginal on the inner left side, once spacing was adjusted the caliper bracket was powder coated ready to fit. Rear performance and feel is fantastic, I us the rear a fair bit "my riding style" drag it sometimes to burn a little speed off, the Pretech's lend itself perfectly for this, just dont bloody stand on them or you will regret it.
I had a brake line made up for the rear 730mm long, this has been routed along the lower swing arm by simply reusing the old cable mounts and taping a thread in a hole already available in the underneath of the swing arm, make sure alignment and orientation of banjo fittings are correct before swaging the ends as braided hoses are not able to be twisted once made.
The fronts were easy use supplied washers for spacing to ensure calipers are mounted with equal rotor clearance, I decided to make up 2 individual brake lines using a longer master cylinder bolt. Front right brake line 950mm long. Front left brake line 1100mm long including fittings
All done, big thanks to Les for organising these.
