Hello all,
My journey to owning an R3 has been kinda of round about to say the least. I started with a new Vulcan 1500 back in 2000. That lasted about 2 mths because of the peer pressure from my Harley buddies. I wound up with a Road King Classic that was nice but I am 6' 4 325 lbs and I always felt that the bike didn't fit me or vise versa. I kept looking and wound up owning a custom 01 Boss Hoss SB 385 hp with a 100 hp shot of juice which I rode until 07. My business went under and I lost everything but the house. I purchased a nice Valkyrie Interstate which I rode for the last year. I had been looking at moving up to the R3 but I kept hearing about the tranny problems along with others so I just didn't pull the triger.
My youngest son was looking to move up from his older ride and we found this 06 R3 Classic with 11K miles that we found on fle-bay. After talking to the previous owner and being asurred that there was absolutly no problem with the bike I encouraged my son to get the bike.
After waiting for 4 weeks for the bike to be deleivered fron Reno, NV to north central Oklahoma we finally got to ride this gourgous bike and sure enough wouldn't you know it, the bike had the second gear problem of jumping while throttling up. This soured the boy and he no longer wanted the bike. I felt bad because I really helped push him to get this bike. So I sold my Valk and bought the Rocket from him. He went and purchased a new Busa and is now a happy camper.
I have been reading about the bike and have read that Triumph had stepped up and has agreed to repair some of these bikes under warrenty. I gave the dealer in OKC a call and they said they could fix the problem if they could make it act up for them. Long story short I took the bike to the dealer a week ago last saturday and they are doing the UP Grade kit for me at no cost. Boy was I happy to hear that. So I am now without the bike for another 3 or 4 weeks but I should have a great bike when they get finished.
The bike has the Corbin fairing and bags with Jardines. I miss the torque of my Boss but I think the Rocket is going to be a great bike for me and I can still get a rush while twisting the throttle on this bad boy.
I have lots of questions about the bike so I'm sure you guys will be hearing from me often.
Terry
