Neutral switch

yes the (2006)ecu uses that for each gear 1st neutral 2nd 3rd 4th 5th (6 in total contacts)
on ecu you can change (1st neutral 2nd 3rd) then 4th 5th percentage of secondary's opening up
i believe you have the correct sensor but (don't carve that in stone)

if it should read neutral all the time then it would run bad

As it is now there is no way it has been in contact with rest of the gears.
At least not in a stable way. The cap is more than 4mm too short/pressed in to reach the sensor. And I pressed quite hard with the test cable on the cap to try to see if I get a good ground. But totally disconnected from ground.
 
With only to wires from the sensor and according to the schematics the output is going to both instrument cluster( for neutral light) and to the ecu. how does the sensor handles that for the rest of the gears? If the gearposition indicator fails for the different gearpositions is that setting fault codes? And lit the engine light?
 
basically in the video you are looking at the hole in the shaft with out the spring and cap that will be sprung out to ride on the gear sending unit
i have a felling that when you are checking it for ground that you are checking it wrong.
you should also check the shaft to see if the shaft is rotating and also check to see if the shaft will ground.
a nice way of checking is to take a 12volt light tester and hook the clamp to positive battery and use the pointed probe to the spring + cap if it is ground then the test light will light up.
did you spray it with wd40 and try to mess with it to see if it would pop out?

If I test like you describe the test light is lit on the shaft but not on the cap or whatever ut is. The cap feels soft and is really stuck hard. It feels more like a lever to engage a contact.

The shaft is turning when selecting gears.
 
its good that the shaft is rotating
my opinion is what ever is in that hole in the shaft has to come out.
hey @Ishrub could you post a pic (parts number of the spring and cap that makes contact with the gear sensor 2006
i guess try to run a tiny screw in that thing then use pliers to pull it out. when you try pulling it you will find out if its metal or plastic
