You guys that do custom work both cosmetic or with motor, do you tell the insurance?
When ever you get insurance they always ask if bike is still stock?
If there is any customizations done to bike? With me with the Jardine Exhaust and tune boy and K&N filters I always said no.
But now that all my tins are totally different and far from stock now should I say what I have done?
And pay more for insurance?
Like one of my friends said that I should have it aprazed on what its worth so if something happens to it stolen or a accident I'll get paid out more then just getting what a stock 05 is worth?
I'm afraid of this hard times that they just might say that there not going to insure it because not too many guys can do that kind of work.
Should I just leave the insurance how it is or tell them and pay more?
Or possibly can't find insurance? That one scars me:(
But at the same time it would suck not getting paid out more closer to what I paid.

Insurance wouldn't give me full coverage on the Harley until i had it appraised, and they didn't spank me to hard on it.
for you i guess it is a question of, if you don't tell them and something happens, they are not touching what was done,
if you cover it and something happens, then it is covered
it is pretty scary approaching the insurance companies here about anything other then a stock bike, rates are insane here, certain areas here have the honor of being the highest rates in north america

Kevin, I called my buddy who owns an insurance brokerage. Receipts, receipts receipts...prove value. He did say if you did most of the work, it’s best when you are finished it, to pay to get an appraisal done. Then when you go to your insurance company,it is based on an “agreed upon value”. Your insurance may go up, but he did say it’s usually not an obscene amount because most of your insurance cost is based upon liability.

Yeah here in Ontario they don't like thinks are not stock, either insurance could go under custom and then insurance is sky high or they won't insure it that's my fear.
And all the work I did us all cash no reseat to prove how much.
So it will be hard to get it appraised ?

It’s not hard, a custom shop could have appraisals, my buddy told me a car is about $200-300 to appraise, he wasn’t sure about a bike. His neighbor was getting it done, as he put an extra $15000 into his HD, so I don’t think they will blow you up for it.

Or is there bike appraisals that could appraise custom bikes with out proof how much it cost?

I remember when I was looking to insure a boss Hoss they said it needs to go under custom and they wanted a crazy price of $7,000 to insure the bike lol that's what I'm scared of Ontario is crazy.
