Hi guys,
Had a stone hit the headlight glass & cracked it....anyone know if I can buy just the glass or do I have to buy the whole unit?

Ive been looking online but cant find the glass, found just about every other part of the assembley.

Cheers.

Many thanks for the replies guys, I had automatically assumed it was a stone but at the time it happened I remember hearing a bang and remember thinking that there were no cars anywhere near in front of me and that it didn't quite sound like a stone bouncing off the headlights but I thought nothing more of it. On closer inspection I cannot see any damage to the headlight glass that shows a point of contact where a stone may have hit.
I was wondering whether it could be a warranty issue... I enclose some pictures and would appreciate your thoughts.
Many thanks guys. 20160718_064723.jpg 20160718_064749.jpg 20160718_064752.jpg

Yes I guess that It would be impossible to prove for me either way.... Just interested if anyone else has had this happen as I have never had a lens crack in 35 years of riding.
I did think the lens does not exactly look heavy duty. It doesn't affect the beam of light so no worries there but I guess in time I will upgrade to the LED once I have done some research on this site about them and how easy they are to fit.
Cheers, I appreciate all your replies.

How many miles on your bike ? Definitely some stress in the glass - and similar to an earthquake relieving stress in the Earth's crust - that shouldn't have been there -- perhaps improper cooling when it was made.

Looking at your photos more closely, I would guess rather that the machine that mates the metal rim to the glass was improperly operated or adjusted, and caused minute cracks, that finally spread.

I would encourage you to go for the warranty.

And whatever that outcome, there are a number of suitable improvements available (and much information about them on this site) as @barbagris mentioned.

Good luck.

Thanks Joesmoe, it does look like it has started at the rim & then spread. Im going to take it in & see what they say. Ill let you know what they say.
Cheers.

i have a few headlamp units here from the R&D stage of a headlight mod, the glass is fine you can have for free if wanted but i think it'd be more trouble trying to separate the glass from the reflector than it would be to just buy a replacement or join the fashion wagon and get those expensive LED lamps :D

regardless i think you should be ok under warranty
