THATS not true either the commando felt like it had a hinge in the middle and a properly set up Z1 would handle as we raced one in the superbike race at POCONO and came in third place ahead of all the Brit and German bikes it was KAWASAKI 1-2-3 DUHAMEL on an H2 IST Z1 Dave Aldana 2nd and my Z1 3rd
 


Somewhere on YouTube there is a video of a 5 liter V-twin, I think it was built using jugs from an aircraft radial engine, seemed way to bike for a bike though
 

I am talking about almost stock street bikes that most of my mates had at the time not some "properly set up race bike' ,a whole different thing ,in the real world of us mere mortals I have ridden both and in my opinion a stock Norton was a much nicer handling bike, and most motor cycle reports at the time agree ,
 
I think most all the fasted bikes in the early 70's were what I would call was a Flex Flyer . I never rode anything that if you pushed it on a twisty road or in some hard curve that the bike do not Flex and give very bad feelings. That is why I was into drag bikes.

Grampi Learning on how to do a hole shot on the modified H1 500 was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I can not count the times that thing unloaded my butt. I installed a kill switch just for that reason

My H2 was no sissy bike either it would run in the low 12's all day and that is almost stock. my plans was to get the 750 into the 10's. The best run I made on the 500 was 11.14 with a 410 hole shot at Person County Drag strip. I kept the time slip framed for many years.
That is the same place I went through the traps at 94 mph and the bike never went through the traps it was about 6 feet in the air.

Thanks to a Bell Star Helmet and a full set of leathers I was OK.
 
YES well I sold NORTON and KAWASAKI the norton was a lighter bike but it had that rubber mounted engine and swing arm and those things would flex when pushed hard I know I road raced one and it would go into some hellacious wobbles at times the 900 Z1 was stable all it needed was a good set of rear shocks and that transformed it into a very nice handling and raceworthy ride
