Garmin Zumo at COSTCO

The 450 has has the physical characteristics of the 550 but not all of the features, plus apparently a few less accessories.

I am an old open ocean celestial navigator who still laments the technology of GPS, thus I still resist buying one. Perhaps I am still of the generation of the character in Edward Abbey's novel, The Brave Cowboy, which was the basis for the movie Lonely Are the Brave. Perhaps time and technology has overtaken me and I'll just stick to my maps. Yes, I think I will. I'll spend the price of a GPS on gas and motel rooms.

advocate of the GPS. About the second best option I ever had.
When out in the boondocks and back country its invaluable in finding
fuel. Lost, just hit HOME.

Oh I suppose I'll make the jump in the spring. Several of my riding friends pf the same generation as me purchased GPS' and really like them.
 
Hi Mike - good find. I've ordered this 450 from Costco - will write a report of what I find and whether or not I return it. Did a compare on the Garmin site and, as stated the Bluetooth and XM are missing; the voice also announces your turn on the 450, but not the name of the street as the 550 does. BTY, Amazon has it for 375.

Hi guys - the Zumo 450 came today. Posting pics to show contents. Two mounting methods - u-bolt on handlebar to "knob" to joint to knob mounted to main mount for zumo OR bolt the "knob" to the clutch screws - would need some 'customizing' to make this work but can be done.
Haven't seen what comes in the 550 so I have no comparison....

Does it have a power cable? I am also wondering if someone makes a separate mount for these. I'll have to take a closer look at a friend's GPS. It has a nice mounting system.
 
Good grief!! When I previewed the posting the pictures were HUGE so I made them smaller to not take up so much room - now you can't read them!! :?

There is a power line that's fused that you can wire to the bike and plug the other end into the mount. I like the mount - seems to have a lot of flexibility in the positioning. Will post when I've mounted it and tried wiring it in.
 

It is sounding good so far. I'll look forward to the pics. Will you wire the GPS directly to the battery or cut into a wire? I generally avoid the latter.

I generally upload my to photobucket from from about a 250kb size jpg fine. I use Pixresizer to reduce them to that size before uploading.
 

If you buy one Mike, then I'm still keeping my old maps! 8)

I discovered the edit button in Photobucket. The pics were xlarge when I first imported them into PB. I then resized to Large - previewed - HUGE!! Reworked all of them to Medium - previewed - HUGE!! Reworked all to them to small - previewed- looked just right baby bear. Posted. TOO SMALL!! I may go back and see if I can start over and just leave them big. That way you can actually identify the parts and read the instructions.
