Now that my front wheel will be off for a few days what would be the beat cleaner for the rim. And any secrets to getting in all the nooks and crannies. Is there a good sealer for once it's cleaned up
+ dawn in my experience. Use light pressure, move in the direction of the existing grain, and you won't even see any marks, just a spotless wheel.
For the black areas I just use a sponge.
Once clean, coat with ceramic coating, even the spray on one from McGuires works well for 3 months and makes dust sluff off in the future.
Avoid metallic pads except HH pads. The other semi-metal pads can leave a hard curing residue that stains the Aluminum once wetted and dried. Once that happens the wheel is unrecoverable without drastic measures.
Are they painted? I use autofinesse wheel cleaner and wash, they also do a rim wax for after. I use a soft paint brush to agitate the cleaner, then pressure wash off, you can use a mix of shampoo and snow foam, if its bad you can use all purpose engine cleaner in same range
It works a treat. Spray it on and let it soak in for a minute. If there is any iron particles engrained in the paint or metal surfaces the solution will turn purple so you can see it working at lifting out the grime. It creates a very soapy solution solution when you use a wet sponge or brush to agitate and wash the wheels.
Finally rinse thoroughly and wipe dry.
Sealing/protecting the surface of the wheels. I recommend :
GTECHNIQ C5 ALLOY WHEEL ARMOUR
Gtechniq do some great products. I use their W8 bug remover to soften dried on bugs so I don't end up rubbing too hard and end up scratching the paint. Works extremely well.
