Kind of what I mean. The two local shops in Mountain Home cater primarily to the squids and off-roaders (I own two racing-type ATVs, so I do buy from them occasionally). Neither really carries much in the way of touring gear, let alone decent prices.

Boise is a drive, too. 'Bout 50 miles from my house to Big Twin (European import dealer), 70 miles to the big cluster of dealers on the northern edge of the city. Several even farther off in Caldwell and Nampa, though I've never checked out any of those.

Big Twin does offer a military discount, though, so the drive is well worth it if they have what I want. Got the new Bonnie for $7300! 'Bout twenty-five miles on the ticker, as it was a floor model.

Understood. As they say "you can't sell from an empty display". Our dealer is anywhere form 10-30% depending on the item and customer. He also offers a nice discount on assoc. purchased and installed with the bike.

Having had a SCUBA shop for years I can tell you firsthand that it really was bothersom for folks to buy over the net to save 10 bucks on a 200 item and then want me to service it. I would, and did, but not ahead of my more loyal customers. Not to mention the "loaners" we provided, but that's another story.

I don't even mind paying a bit more to support a local dealer. I often do pay a bit more to an independent motorcycle shop that I shop at and use for service. San Antonio Motorcycle Shop Great people, I've bought one motorcycle and two four wheelers from them.. :)

When I needed tires this last time, I fully intended on buying new Metzelers from my local Triumph dealer and getting them installed there. However, the dealer wanted to charge me $299!!!!! for the rear Metzeler alone! I told them that I did want to buy from them, but I can't justify paying that much for just a rear tire when I can get it for $100 less anywhere else, but they wouldn't budge.

So.. I ordered Avons online and had The Motorcycle Shop (link above) install the tires for me instead.

Well, as it turns out, Big Twin had Triumph, Olympia, and another name-brand I can't remember, at reasonable prices, so me and the life-mate both came out of there with nice all-season jackets and good gloves.

Total cost for 2 jackets, 2 pairs of gloves, and one new HJC helmet (for him): $640. Not too bad!
