    New Horns

I never ended up fitting them. Still running the stocker.

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

Here's the result. The bracket is a bit naff so I will be replacing it. But for now, it'll do.

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

Took it for a ride this afternoon. Everything worked great except the tacho. At idle it was fine but over 2,000RPM it was very unstable. It was so bad that it couldn't learn the gear/RPM ratios to work out which gear the bike was in for the gear indicator. I pulled it apart again and tried...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

Got the Acewell gauge to work and in the process I think I may also have gotten to the bottom of what was wrong with the old speedo. I said that the speedo signal from the ECU was a 0 - 3V square wave. The speedo supplies the voltage and the ECU just pulls it to ground to create that square...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

I found an eBay listing for the water temp joint pipe that said 22mm was compatible with the Rocket. So I've ordered one of those. Should arrive in a couple of days. In the meantime, I'm working on the harness. I've cut the ends off the instrument cluster harness so i can utilise the stock...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

The existing water temp sender would be used by the ECU for cold start (I'd presume). So I can't disconnect it from the ECU or remove it from the engine. I believe the temp signal from the ECU to the instrument cluster is just an on/off (over temp) indicator so that's no good for the new...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

... which means installing a water temp sender in the upper radiator hose. Can anyone tell me what the internal diameter on that hose is at the radiator end? It looks like it'd be somewhere between 20mm and 24mm. I need to order the water temp sensor tube for the Acewell speedo. Water Temp...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

Pulled the speedo apart. They're really not designed to be pulled apart. So if it wasn't stuffed before, it sure is now. It's a multi-layer circuit board with mostly surface mount components. I can't see any corrosion or damaged components in there but it's all so tiny that it'd be next to...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

Voltage on purple wire is solid so that's not it. Yet speedo still resets the trip meters when the engine is switched off. To my mind that indicates there is an issue within the speedo gauge unit itself. Is there an internal fuse in them? I've even tried re-uploading the map into the ECU to...

    Decel popping

Amazing how many badly tuned bikes you hear at the races then. Cars too.

Thanks. I'll check that. Yes, that fuse is also for the accessory socket and heated grips, both of which are working fine so it's probably not the fuse.

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

OK, I put it all back together. Good news is that the speedo now shows speed. Bad news is that the trip meters still reset every time I switch the bike off and the odometer display is still kinda dim. Perhaps the constant power to the speedo (purple wire) from the battery is the issue there...

Yeah, I certainly learned some things. I'll call it "fixed" after I've buttoned it all back up and it still works. Fingers crossed.

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

Which is of course exactly what I would do if the whole shebang hadn't just started working again ... perfectly. Intermittent faults. I really hate those. I guess I'll put it all back together properly tomorrow and see if it still works then. I'm now suspecting an issue somewhere in the...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

Ugggh ... speedo wasn't plugged into the loom. Hence no power to the speed sensor from the speedo. After I plug it back in ... The ECU is supplying 5VDC to the sensor on the pink wire (signal) The speedo is supplying 12VDC to the Orange/Red wire (speedo power supply) BUT!!!! When I...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

OK, I've pulled the sensor and there was nothing on it except some oil. It's still magnetic and looks in good order physically. I hooked it up again but with the sensor out of the engine, switched the ignition on and immediately got the 5VDC again on the pink wire. I waved a spanner in front of...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

I am using a scope for all measurements. The speed sensor is not open circuit because I get 5VDC out of it between the pink (signal) and black/white (ground) wires. When the rear wheel is spinning, there should be a square wave, presumably from 0 - 5V. EDIT: perhaps it's not quite as simple...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

So ... an update. I've finally gotten around to working on this problem. I raised the back end off the ground, started her up and ran it in gear so the rear tyre is spinning. I got no signal out of the ECU on the speed signal wire so I thought I'd see if I could get anything directly off the...

Speedo needle dead, P1500 error code, odometer works fine

Speedo arrived. Less than 48 hours after I ordered it. Can't do much better than that. I've also ordered an Oscilloscope so I can check out what signals are coming out of the ECU as far as tacho and speedo goes. That should arrive within the week. I've read the other threads on here about...
