Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Yeah. Guess I'll take a shot at it tonight and hope the gasket can be reused.

The screens are there. What I left out was one of the metal intermediate "retainer" plates apparently. So one screen is only being held in with the deflector.

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Quick question. I cleaned up the shop last night and apparently I didn't reinstall one of the screen "retainers" in the oil sump (item #10 in this pic) Is this a "stop what you're doing and pull the pan again" mistake or something I can just take care of next oil change? Also maybe since...

Yes, everyone has been extremely helpful. I'm happy to report that after replacing the plug (on the brand new Ricks stator) the bike is now charging properly as per the manual test (2k rpm, 13.5-15v). I've only put a couple miles on it to check for leaks. Hope to get it out some this week...

    Testing stator

So what did your meter say about your stator?

    Testing stator

Not yet. Just tonight I fired it up for the first time and found an issue with my new stator that appears (thankfully) to be a bad plug. I'm giving up for tonight.

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Guess I musta got one of those "Friday afternoon" stators... Whoever crimped on the plug of my new stator completely missed the conductor for Leg A. I have confirmed correct resistance between all three legs using this bare wire. I'm too beat to fix this tonight, but Jack at RoadsterCycle...

The gray plug is to the stator. All three legs should have somewhere around 0.6 ohms resistance to each other and should have no continuity to ground. Set your meter to continuity (looks like a little sideways arrow pointing at a straight line usually right next to all the Ohms settings) and...

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Well, it's all back together, but I'm not sure I'm done yet? I dropped the sump and cleaned the screens. Nothing significant. They've either been cleaned before or the bike just hasn't worn much internally. Got it all buttoned back up, it runs, and I think it charges but I'm not sure it's...

    Transmission Woes

Oil pressure switch wire runs up above the cylinder head towards the left. I was smart enough to remove mine when I did my stator recently, but not smart enough to keep from wringing off the switch when I reinstalled it lol. It's a very small/thin wire all by itself.

Rear wheel/brakes on, radiator and water pump back on with all new hoses/o-rings, and SH847 R/R unit mounted and wired. I bought the RoadsterCycle "Super Kit" which came with a new direct battery cable.

Interesting "what's it like?" rider report 2021 Rocket R3

"Should you accidentally nudge the throttle the bike will take off"... isn't that the point? I prefer bikes that I don't have to ask nicely to please accelerate. Also what a painfully boring video. The same 10 second clip of him entering a roundabout, spliced with slow-mo pans of the...

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Starting to look like a bike again. Front cover buttoned up, exhaust all back on. Waiting on a couple coolant hoses because I wasn't happy with how soft the old ones were, and also a new front tire (a Commander 2 140/75R-17 at the advice of the forum). Opted to just make a cam tensioner...

FWIW there's a really clean 18k mile FD off an '06 on eBay for $449. Your driveshaft splines look like they might be ok, post another pic after you clean them off.

I do, but I'm about ready for this one to be done and on the road again... Still have to make a mount for the 847 R/R unit, put the exhaust back on, and reinstall the front cover and cooling system.

Yeah, I got that part. Just figured it's the least I can do since the book calls for one and it's not in there yet.

I tried "massaging" the crash bars back into position but could not get satisfactory alignment with the floorboard bolt holes. Maybe if I was running pegs it would have been easier, but the alignment has to be really good to fit a bolt through both the crashbar and the floorboard mount. It was...
