University research into increasing motorcycle safety

Cell phones, at least IPhones, can be set to decline texts and calls automatically with an "I am presently driving" message. One must simply know how to turn the feature on and have the presence of mind to actually use it.

University research into increasing motorcycle safety

I'm thinking a heads up display in my helmet while I am trying to track everything going on around me is going to be a distraction. Every day I have a 35 mile ride one way to work through Eastern North Dakota. There are fields the whole way. Its deer o'clock when I leave at 6:15 AM, and...

Replacing grips, a little too late to ask for a how to?

I have not yet done a grip replacement, so I can't speak as to any tricks or such. However, at the .com site, I did find this tidbit of information that will make grip swaps much easier. Triumph Rocket III Community

    Loose mirrors

So I used two 3/8”x1” stainless flat washers under each mirror and tightened them as much as I could. They no longer move. Not even at 105mph! Apparently I tried the shim trick before as I did find a washer under the loose set one, but I used the correct size washer for the bolt, not the stem.

    Loose mirrors

So now that I have my bike back on the road and riding it I am finding another maintenance issue. My right hand side mirror is pretty much useless at any speed above about 10mph, and the right is starting to get loose as well - it just takes about 30 minutes at 75mph to move out of acceptable...

Well that was a wasted afternoon!..Riser Install.

I had trouble mounting my Rivco risers on an 08 R3T. They sent me the wrong blocks TWICE. The first time I didn't notice, so I had everything taken apart before I noticed that I simply could not mount the risers as they were NOT the Touring units. Once I got the right ones, no troubles at...

    rake out front

Couldn't use the same forks without lowering the front end - they would have to be longer to maintain ride height. The angle of the neck would have to change to make the trail correct for the rake. I've never done it, but just imagining the triangles the neck would have to get tipped out some...

    rake out front

If you already know this, disregard. Rake If the rake gets too far in front of the trail the steering will get floppy and heavy. If too short, it will get very quick and can get squirrely. This is why you now see choppers with the goofy frames that have the steering neck way up in the air...

    08 starting troubles

Got it going. The new MAP sensor showed up and I got it in Friday morning, but didn’t have time to test properly. Last night I had an opportunity to take it for a test drive and it seems to be back to running well again. Now I just need to put everything back together, reflash the ECU and...

    Rocket Won't Start

I just got my rocket fixed from a somewhat similar problem. It would start once, run horrible, and then not start again for some time. Final verdict was MAP sensor.

    Map sensor

I just replaced my MAP sensor. The bike was running, but sputtering and popping and such at low rpms; it would eventually die and was unrideable above idle. Throttle balance screen reported that all three were within 20, but the barometrics section always indicated 964hpa, running or not. I...

    TOURING

My Dad is 73 and just in the last month and a half purchased his 3rd and 4th Goldwings. Not like 3rd and 4th ever, but 3rd and 4th at the same time! He will be selling two or three off, he says, but its hard to say. Fairly certain the GL1800 will be going. So if anyone is looking and near...

    A lesson in brakes

My 03 Sprint ST had some soft front brakes as well. I read to pump them up and band the lever to the handlebar to dissolve any air in the system, so I gave that a go. I bled them. No dice. Still soft. Feeling that the brake system was a rather simple system, being rather confident it the...
