  1. rear final drive price change

Yes, that must be a very old RIII....
  2. rear final drive price change

This is interesting. My rear final drive needs to be replaced on my Rocket classic. I asked the price from my local dealer and they had to research. Their reply is that the price dropped from $2k+ to just over $500. Something about a reclassification. Anyone know how this could happen?
  3. Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

Ok, the whining noise is coming from the rear final drive.
  4. Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

I had around 35,000 miles on it when the shifter rod problem occurred on the second bike. I had around 30,000 miles on it when the second gear problem happened on the first bike. I got a little compensation on each deal but I was still out of pocker over $2000 on the first deal and $3000 the...
  5. Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

LOL, typical sense of humor I guess. That is what came up with the Creation of the Rocket III video.....
  6. Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

To your knowledge is there any major differences between the UK & US versions?
  7. Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

    So true...
  8. Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

Thanks for the sympathy. I guess I was looking at if it was happening across the board with owners but it does not seem that way. Like I said in the beginning it has been the best ride of my life!! But why me on 2 consecutive R3s????? I have two dealerships to choose from here in town and have...
  9. Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

The problem was that when you shifted to 2nd there was nothing, I could shift again up to 3rd but no 2nd gear.
  10. Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

I currently have a 2007 R3 with over 40,000 miles. I had the shifter bar that goes into the engine break, leaving the beast stuck in 5th gear while I was over an hour away from home. Ended up with clutch blow up inside the engine and over $3000 of repairs. After the work the machanic said the...
  11. More information on starter issues...

Down here in Texas the heat is a real problem. I always have the issue after the beast has been running for at least 30 minutes. When that happens I jerk it forward or backwards with the bike in gear and clutch released, then try starting and that works. I thought it was a dead spot on the...
  12. battery question - optimate

I fought a weak battery problem for over a year. Off and on problems starting, even in nice weather. I even had to pack jumper cables cause I never knew when it would strike. I finally bought a hYTX20DHL battery from BatteryStuff.com for $99, including shipping . I have not had a problem with it...
  13. gear position sensor replacement

Okay, here is what the dealership found: On the plunger shaft is a hole wherein fits a nib with a spring providing pressure to the nib to keep it against the gear position sensor. This nib was stuck inside the hole of the plunger, like it overheated and did not function properly. The guy at the...
  14. gear position sensor replacement

Well, the dealership pro called me back and said to bring the bike in to evaluate something else. I'll bet it is the plunger. Problem is my bike is an '07 with 30K miles. The guy did say he has never seen this problem. Thanks for all your suggestions.
  15. gear position sensor replacement

How hard is the plunger change? I have checked continuity of the gps unit and it seems to be good. I moved the unit around and cleaned it and still did not get it to respond/work. The nib on the plunger seemed to be worn. I did learn that you cannot get the old unit wiring out without removing...
