Again apples to oranges the filters arr not even the same shape. I will say I haven't tried the ram air because its puny for my bikes breathing needs. I did not like the piper cross foam as it seemed to have a problem with vapors eating away at it. I do have a set if the tall ipg filters the are shaped the same as the ram air mr-008 only the might be a little larer i can tell you after switch Eddie to the K&N rx4040s the tops of my primary throttle flaps stay smooth and clean verses sticky and kind of black. Eotherway since Ram Air dropped the ball on a bigger filter for the guys who have horsepower I will just stay K&N for now
That's not OUR K&N vs OUR RAMAIR. But it's an Independent study at MIRA which is an industry reference in the UK. The bigger Ramair - I think was quashed by their finance dept. They used my bike and a 3D scanner to measure together with Colin who designed the first one. The poignant thing is how much longer it takes for the foam to saturate with crud. The stick Black is the through flow of oil - the prototype ITG is the same some dit/oil gets pulled through. But with the Ramair they've always been clean. I've used K&N's too but I've never had much luck with them - on any bike/car. It's down to what one knows and can get easily tbh.
@barbagris ya I'm not trying really to say ones better then the other I was amazed how thr K&N on my supercharger with there prefilter sock was in monsson type rain well except for the hail I had th slow fown to 70 on the interstate. Since I had that on the foam and I didn't know ir really wasn't oil on the filter, I thought maybe the vapors were eating the foam. Even the dye was comming off . Anyway the foam seemed like it fit the bike beter but I made the aluminum mounting plate. But even using the same manfacture for the prefilters on both. Things just seed cleaner inside the throttle bodies with the 4040's another plus is I'm not a big feller and on the foam filter making the base my knee hardly touched it. Another plus for bigger guys like steele
