had a 65 fury 1 the 383 just didn't cut it so in went a 440 magnum. it would jump a car length when it shifted to 2nd. one day i had a car load of people and decided to show them however that was just too much weight so it blew up the trans converter.
tc if you put it together watch which converter you use. 360,400,440 all take different weights on the converters. some steel cranks 70,s do not take weights.
engine sizes are stamped on block by distributor.
if you decide to go automatic i could help you pick a converter i still have my old converter books.

Thanks mate , appreciate the offer of assistance. The 60's/70's US muscle cars cost an arm and a leg here in Australia. Got a couple of good mates that do Hershey and Carlisle swaps every year. Usually bring a car or couple of bikes back to pay for their trip. Were it not for my 'colourful past' I'd have been be joining them ... alas

Got air-con .. been waiting for your input Les .. and I get a f#ckin weather forecast :) advice , opinion , experience please mate.
LOL... I had a VG when I lived in Perth the early 80's, they hadn't really sorted out rust proofing as it was full of it, had heaps of torque with 3 on the tree.... only to happy to supply abit of advice, looking forward to catching up next month

as for the weather... this was going home last night

I had a 68 ve .it had a 225 slant motor in it .i thought it was an okay car until I stuck its nose into the Clyde mountain . I told the tow truck drivers if they retrieved it they could have it .i was only twenty back then . It taught me respect for cars as for the next two months I was walking around the bay.

Pete had a similar experience in the XYGS I owned .. had a 351 in it. Running late to work at the XXXX brewery early one morning, pissin down rain (why I was in the car) .. two or three 360 spins on a blind corner narrowly missing a couple of big gum trees. Luck rather than skill that's for sure.

Thanks mate , spotted that one. Been keeping an eye on that site to see what's for sale and if parts are readily available.... Valiants will never live down the Wog thing, guess it proves Wogs had taste .. hahahaha
My old man was as Aussie as they come, but he swore by Valiants because they were cheap and reliable , he didnt give a rats ass about the WOG title as Mum was one haha.
I went with him to Century Motors in Launceston Tassie when i was 14 , he bought a VF Pacer ( 4 door ) off them for $200 that'd been traded in because they thought the frontend was rooted due to really bad vibration, Dad knew better , it had 3 broken wheel nut studs that are replaceable and got himself a great car , always was a slippery old bastard.

Pete i've owned 3 VE VIP's over the years , last one was 2 owner looked like it had just left the factory , picked it up for 1800 back in 2003 , thats the one i wish i'd kept

This '69 has got a bit of rust , nothing too bad considering it's age and being an Albany car (never stops raining for a few months) .. rust is nowhere near as bad as the 1976 F100 that I did up in Darwin ..or the '84 model F100 after that now that I think of it.
Flights are booked ... still trying to borrow a car while we are in Qld. Be going out to the Asphalt Demons Archer Falls Hot- Rod and Bobber show on weekend of the 18th. It's a great weekend .. rockabilly bands , good people , great tucker and grass track drag racing .. always entertaining. You Brissy blokes should come

I just remembered something about the Charger I had. First time I went to take the passenger side wheels off, nearly popped my sphincter, didn't realise they had left hand threads on the studs. Apart from trucks I think these were one of the few passenger vehicles that did.

Mopar had some great stuff back in the day, and some decent stuff recently.

Think given a healthy budget I'd do a Barracuda with a modern 6.4 Hemi in it, camed out and breathed on for more power of course. Long tube headers with 3" to 3" in/out 24" long glass packs and dump em just behind the rear tires to the side. Would sound SO evil, and would actually be crazy quick for an old car, plus fairly reliable and easy to tune.

Sadly, that will never come to be, the wife has laid down the law: If we build a classic car (which she totally wants to do, yay) it will be a 65/66 Mustang with modern 5.0 Coyote motor and running gear under it.
