2005 Rocket III Std & 2012 R3R with 240 Carp. kit
I have a 2005 Rocket III, with D&D exh. under seat ducting removed. I bought one ago with 8400 miles on it. It now has 18500 and some of the noises are getting louder. I can feel a bad bearing with the clutch released and have had trouble with 2nd gear at times, but not to bad. Idle is a joke. I have loaded 15 or so MAPS and relearn the TPS each time and the 12 min. retune. Still not right. Stalls or idles at 2500 RPM Then two weeks ago it has started to surge in the lower RPM's running up the gears and while steady speeds. Bad TPS? no codes, Relearn idle again. The same. I have the 20228 with the decel pop added to it.

1. What is the update kit and will Triumph cover it with this old a bike?
2. Which dealer in Texas?
The three in Houston are not very customer friendly when it comes to this. The Dealer that I have used for tires told me it was normal. I don't think so. The other two don't have any idea when it comes to the rocket or other makes for that matter. Bad feedback from other riders with other models. Not just the rocket.

Sorry for the long post.

It's not a long post.....:)

I can't help you on the fueling problems, my bike is stock on the intake side...I have no problems other than a certain affinity for gasoline with as little ethanol as possible.

The upgrade kit consists of a lot of parts but a dealer must one, check the build number to ascertain if the bike falls under the program and rwo, ascertain if there is any mechanical issues which, is where a good dealer makes the difference. Having said that, I hauled my R3 650 miles to have it repaired because the dealers here, well, didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling. That's just me I guess.

The full upgrade is lots of parts from the timing and clutch through the gearbox, shift mechanism plus the TDU bearing some wiring harness parts, ignition wires, caps and whatever else a good competent dealer can find inside. I had a fairly large box of parts replaced.

Again, it all hinges on the dealer and his or her ability to communicate with Triumph in Newman to get the job done and done right.

It's all hinges on the business model to which each dealer ascribes. Sell as many brands as possible for the maximum mark up and screw anyone needing service; or, have a sense of integrity to provide service to customers by employing a service department of qualified individuals that concentrate on a few brands only. Harley has this business model down to a science. You can get your bike worked on while you wait in the show room; buying up their over priced Harley accessories, widgets and gadgets.

That is a fair statement and the dealer I went to only deals in Triumph's on the new side. His restored/for sale motorcycles are any Brit make and I did see a late model Ducati last time I was there.

...Nothing better than waiding through a sea of other brands in an overcrowded showroom to get to the Triumph offerings, or going to a service counter whith a big Honda or Kawasaki or Suzuki sign over it and wnating your Triumph to be worked on...... really instiills confidence.:(

I have found that a balanced throttle bodies goes a long way towards smooth and menacing power.

Another application of dielectric compound on each coil contact spade connector is advisable.

I continue to have a .65 TPS voltage though the beast runs considerably better with the throttle bodies balanced.

I spent weeks if not months chasing my tail with similar problems. Even blamed it on the pc-3. Turned out it was the TPS. I moved the secondary tps to the primary position as a trial and all was well.
