Hi, All;
I went out to crank up the 'Silver Bullet' this morning to go to church (honest!), and while everything set up as normal (all indicators, all the right sounds, including the fuel pump), when I punched the 'start' button, absolutely NOTHING happened.
I tried several times (key off/key on/systems boot, all the 'right' sounds, ensure I'm in neutral, pull in the clutch, punch the start button) with negative results. the headlights are off with the key on, and I seem to remember that they stayed on until you hit the start button.
I'm suspecting the battery, but was wondering if there's anywhere else I should look first. I took her on a 150-mile ride yesterday with absolutely NO problems. Any help, advice, rants or whatever would be appreciated!!
Thanks!:D

Hi Hank..don't shoot me for this..but is the kill switch on..i cleaned mine one time
and knocked the switch off :eek:

With everything else working (gauge sweep, etc) except the head lights and the starter, I'm afraid to say it may be the ignition switch. That is exactly what happened to mine.

My reply: Thanks for the tip, tdragger, I borrowed a vom from a friend, and have some time off work tomorrow. I'll check the battery for voltage at rest, and for a voltage drop when pushing the start button. Hopefully, this will eliminate (or confirm) the battery as a cause. If the battery checks out ok, it'll be off to the dealer. I'll do the checks tomorrow and post results here. Thanks for your advice!:)

Hi, Guys;
Well, I couldn't wait. I grabbed the VOM, went outside (in the snow), and pulled the seat off the beast. Voltage key off is 12.5-12.75. Voltage key on is the same. Check neutral, and the kill switch, hit the start switch, no change in values. Guess it isn't the battery. I do not have a service manual, how do I check the keyswitch? Could it be the start button? I'm not the worlds greatest mechanic, is it time to head for the dealer?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Check the clutch switch for damage, check fuses, check kickstand switch. If the ignition switch is the problem other things may not work as well so check idicators, horn, brake lights to see if they are working and headlight bulbs to see if they are not blown. It wont start if the headlights are not working.

I tend to blame everything on the ignition switch. That was just one of the odd occurances that was happening (dying, no start, high idle, overheat, no battery charge etc.) when mine went bad. They replaced it under warranty and every little jinx and gremlin just vanished. Try jiggling the key and tugging on the harness going into it, in a pinch that got me home.
