    Common Bike Mistakes

2 beers is nothing, would not hesitate one bit after two beers. Three.....well...that is pushing it for me. Smoking while riding? My neighbor used to do that, he would pull out of his driveway on his Harley with a cigar in his mouth. He doesn't ride any more after his crash. Loose chain...

    Lane Splitting

Splitting lanes is nerveracking and I don't like doing it but it is hard to resist since it is legal in california. Slowly following the cage in front of you, especially on a hot day, when you could be shooting through that big hole ahead requires more patience than I have. I won't split...

Why we crash. An incomplete but informative study.

I would vote for repeal if it comes to that, but I guess I hope it doesn't because I don't want to be tempted to ride without a helmet....:D Self discipline is not one of my strong points.

Why we crash. An incomplete but informative study.

What was the reasoning behind repealing the helmet law? If they repealed the helmet law here in cali I would be tempted to not wear a helmet on short runs to the store etc.

    Helmet Locks

LOL! When I had a kidney stone and sensed it was about to pass through the schwantzstuker I put on a helmet before I peed in case I passed out with pain. Turned out to be relatively painless.....well compared to the agony of going through kidney et al....... As for the helmet locks, I use a...

    Quick fly by

Years ago I was hit in the head by a Magpie while doing about 50 mph, it just about knocked me out even with a helmet on. It did knock the magpie out, permanently. A magpie is a much smaller bird than an owl, you are right in assuming it would have killed you or at least knocked you off the...

    2005 Rocket on ebay

Correct, there are no 2005 black engines. Its a swap out, not that there is anything wrong with that.

What about that cool sidecar you built for the Rocket, you still have it?

    Removing the Cam Ladder

That looks like a good idea too but access is still a problem. I would not be able to get the impact driver vertical on some of the bolts, plus cutting a notch in the bolt would be difficult on the intake side. Doable but more patience than I have would be required. I ordered the craftsman 6...

    Removing the Cam Ladder

Well, that would work. I have never seen those before, would they be available at any hardware store? Can you post a picture of one?

    Removing the Cam Ladder

That sounds great Turbo but access prevents this. If the engine were off the frame it would be no problem. It is hard enough on some of the bolts just to get the torx bit onto the bolt, let alone accurately drill and insert an easy out. It is the outside bolts that are freezing and they have...

    Removing the Cam Ladder

That is exactly what I am going to do. Why two people? Maybe i misunderstand, but it seems you would press with one hand and either use a tweezers or magnet to remove the shim with the other hand, and installation would be the reverse. What am I missing?

    Removing the Cam Ladder

I sure do like the idea of maxing out the valve clearance, but the cam ladder bolts have defeated me, at least while the engine is still on the frame. I have used heat with a heat gun, and tapping the bolt and no go. Taking a torch to the bolt scares me, i just evision very bad things...

    Removing the Cam Ladder

Didn't Fred break the bucket because he turned the engine with the shim removed? Seems like there are hazards either way, effing up the cam ladder or breaking a bucket. If the cam ladder is damaged you have to buy a whole new cylinder head. Then again, even though only the number three...
