Crash bars, engine guards, sliders Rocket 3 R/ GT

Personally I would only fit aluminum bars to my R3. The reason being that, in the event on a crash at speed, substantial steel bars would likely result in serious damage to the engine block at the point that they are attached. The fixings are into aluminum. In my opinion these bars would only...

Crash bars, engine guards, sliders Rocket 3 R/ GT

Thanks for posting the pics I think the bars actually enhance the look of the bike, glad you were able to get them fitted. I'm very tempted to get a set myself. Steve

    Looking for seat 3GT

Have you sat on a Corbin? they are rock hard. Maybe they work if you have a big butt but for a skinny runt like me they are not comfortable? Luckily I find the stock rider seat fine. I took the pillion seat off and added an inch of foam to the height and 2 inches to the width and got an...

Crash bars, engine guards, sliders Rocket 3 R/ GT

It's so disappointing when that sort of thing happens. I ordered some rear crash bars for my Heritage soft tail from China and I had to file out the holes to get them to fit also the powder coating was not good. I am going to wait until the powder coating starts to fail and then have it redone...

    Mounting / dismounting

The reason I said stand on the right is that way you are getting your knee higher to start with and then you are sliding it downhill. But the system works on either side so I tend to stand on the "safe side" away from passing traffic. What I never do is stand on the pegs to mount any bike, it...

    Mounting / dismounting

OK, here's how I do it, and I too am rapidly approaching 70!! Stand on the right side facing slightly forward, straighten the bars and hold the right grip in right hand. Now bend left leg back and grab the ankle in left hand and lift your foot up above your knee. Then twist forward and lean in...

    Passenger seat

Still a work in progress but here they are. Bear in mind that the pillion seat is also 2 inches higher.

    Passenger seat

Unfortunately Triumph only played lip service to the passengers needs on the new Rocket despite offing a GT version. I changed my Thunderbird LT for the R3 GT and my wife hated the pillion setup. It has taken a lot of work to get the bike to the point that she finds it comfortable. Changes are...

TRIK Custom Motorcycle Parts rear fender

There are quite a few on the market now. I have the Powerbronze one and it works really well but you do need to fix it using self-tapping screws. Some people have used glue or tape and have had problems with it catching on the tire.

TRIK Custom Motorcycle Parts rear fender

Since the Trik fender is the same width as the tire it doesn't take anything away from it. And before you ask it does work to eliminate to crap that's sprayed everywhere with the stock set up. I have gone for the gloss black and I think it looks great. So each to his own! The attached pic is...

    Luggage rack options

That's great! and your solution looks way better and stronger than Corbins. Have you thought of doing a small production run and selling them, I'm sure there would be quite a few takers?

    Luggage rack options

Very nice fabrication work, I like the way you have fixed the new bracket from the top and bolted through the frame. I think the result looks much better than Triumphs rubbish stock bags and ridiculously small sissy bar! My only concern is that looking at pic 5 it all looks very close to the...

    Luggage rack options

Ahh, that makes sense. BTW I use 1.5m SPT tie down straps to tie my bag to the sissy bar, they are lockable, cut / slash proof and can be pulled nice and tight.

    Luggage rack options

That's interesting, I haven't seen that. Is it the actual rack that's broken or the fixing brackets? The rack is milled from billet aluminum so is very strong, the fixings are cast so it's the fixings that are the weak point hence the need to strap the bag tight to the sissy bar.

    Luggage rack options

It's the fixings that cause the rating of 3KG not the rack itself. However a Triumph engineer said that they always allow a big margin of error and if you strap the bag tight to the sissy bar not just to the rack that will increase the load you can safely carry. I regularly carry 10kg on my...

    Soft luggage

The bags are rubbish! By far the worst thing about the R3. The zips break and they are not waterproof! Also they are very expensive. Have a look at the C-Bow bags from Hepco and Becker. Steve

    Soft luggage

Yes, but I put a thin piece of ply inside the bag to stop it drooping.

Blowing in the wind - the need for a revised kickstand

I agree with other comments that the oil level is not critical enough to worry about here. Twice my bike was returned to me after service and both times when I checked the level according to the manual the oil was low! the dealer said that they fill the bike by volume and don't bother to check...

    2021 Rocket 3R - Header Discoloration

The gold colour is caused by the heat, it is not a coating so you can polish away as much as you like! The Gold colour will return after a few rides. We should be glad they don't go blue like many other bikes exhausts!

    Full rear mudguard

I also have the full guard. Recently did a tip through Spain and Portugal 2 up and rode through a storm of "biblical" rain. The full guard worked perfectly, my better half was quite dry (at the back anyway!) and the bike picked up no debris under the seat. It's well made a pretty easy to fit, I...
