    Power Commander Pros/Cons

I have a custom tune that is 95% there. Based on what you say, I think the autotune will improve on that and get me where I need to go- thanx.

    Power Commander Pros/Cons

Just in case someone later is following this thread. The knock was eliminated when I added octane boost (Lucas). This seems to be a tuning issue after all. Hate it when people finally figure something out and then abandon their own post :banghead:

    Knock, knock!

UPDATE - With the octane boost the thumping is now gone! It was raining on the way to work, so unless it's humidity related I'd say that the higher octane has temporarily solved the problem. I added about 1/3 bottle of and brought the tank up to about 1/3 full to keep it concentrated. So, is...

    Cold Starts in Cold Weather

I have the older Rocket, but that sounds like a good theory. I've heard that waiting to hit the starter for 10 seconds or so will result in an easier start from the battery (counter intuitive, I know-pushing lights, etc). I think someone mentioned that in an earlier post here. Sounds like you...

    Cold Starts in Cold Weather

I'll see if I can see what battery it is. Yeah, it is hesitating with a six year-old battery at 44 degrees and additional compression, but still cranks in less than two seconds, first try. I'll probably need a new battery at some point soon, BUT your 2020 should not.

    Cold Starts in Cold Weather

Cold Start at 44F (click here) That's a 2011 bike with high compression 10:1 pistons and 60,000 miles. Battery replaced 11/20/14 at 14,065 miles. -> Show that to your service manager.

I wouldn't consider 55F cold. You said, "Early today, about 55 degrees, same cranking repeatedly without starting."

    Cold Starts in Cold Weather

Dr. D is a dentist. He should be able to estimate time pretty good. You know, when the dentist says, "this will only hurt for a second...." :sneaky:

    Cold Starts in Cold Weather

My bike is now in one of those portable tent sheds, so whatever it is outside is what the bike is when I try to crank it. This morning it started on it's own at 41 degrees. It turns for 2 - 3 seconds before coming to life. If it's colder the reason it might turn for a while is the battery cold...

    Cold Starts in Cold Weather

Someone with more clout than me is going to come along shortly to confirm this, but since no one has yet... You have a brand new 2020 R3 and "the Service mngr said it is normal for repeat turning over as long as it eventually starts." Bull****e!!! I have a 2011 Roadster and it will turn right...

    Knock, knock!

First of all, I just looked it up, but yeah, you're the guy- your "how to" videos on things like setting the timing were a huge help to me when I (complete newbie) did a Lush cam and piston upgrade. I think Lush was equally afraid that I'd blow up my bike due to inexperience- got lucky. If you...

    Knock, knock!

I removed my good luck charm bell. A bit worried that after all this that it was that banging back and forth, but NO. Back to other more complicated theories. On way back from work I confirmed that it does not present when going downhill and holding at 3K in 4th.

    Knock, knock!

@warp9.9 Torsional Bearing. OK, read up on it- dang, THAT looks like a ton o' fun! I'll need to buy a press and special swingarm removal socket. I'll ask later how to make that tool. I no longer have a shed, just a portable tent/shed over gravel shared with lawn mowers, etc. and just enough room...

    Knock, knock!

Reading some old posts where you chimed in. One was Doc Roc mentioning a sound (not the same) but at 3k rpm! Turned out it was his timing chain adjuster. I have one of Neville's. I checked the adjustment recently and believe it's OK. Another post mentioned clutch cable play. Lots of things to...

    Power Commander Pros/Cons

I noticed it several months ago. I had a lot of crap going on in my life and just ignored it, but afraid I'm tearing something up. Amazing how often I hit that 3k rpm groove when I'm not on the back roads. I convinced myself it was a tune issue, as it didn't seem to make sense mechanically, but...

    Knock, knock!

@warp9.9 mentioned the torsional bearing and @Speedy chimed in on another post where I first mentioned this and brought that up too. If that's it, I'm afraid to ask, what's involved in changing that out? Here is what he had to say....

    Power Commander Pros/Cons

I did not inspect the universal joint when I changed the bevel box. The thump comes right in at 2900 - 3,000 rmp , but not a constant rhythmic thing. It often seems very specific to a certain exact RPM, so hard to keep it going... but, it is not keeping time (rhythmic)- seems a bit random. So...

    Knock, knock!

I just moved (divorce) and have some octane boost somewhere in storage. I'm going to see if I can get to it. Neville also recommended I try that, just haven't had a chance yet.

    Knock, knock!

I can produce it on the flat and uphill. I think on downhill it's the same, but I'll check that to be sure, as well as the clutch.
