Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Following some tips from the forum and the positive Amazon reviews I gave the "Seal Mate" a shot and it seems to have fixed my seal leaks. Question now is can I readjust the fork oil levels without disassembling the forks? The manual gives the oil level with the forks fully compressed. Is it...

Want to Buy Need Classic Right-Hand Fork Protector

I need a RH fork protector for an '07 Classic (see highlighted part). Triumph part #T2045513. Anybody got one for cheap?

    Motorcycle airbag jacket

I've got a Hit-Air jacket. Been wearing it for about 5 years now. It was a compromise I made with my wife when our first kid was born and I don't regret it. As a mesh jacket it's no different than what I was wearing before, pretty comfy and not too ugly (I didn't get a high-vis color) and so...

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

I'll take both! Found another thread with some tools I'll apparently need. Also may have to do the front brake pads. They're soaked and not working well.

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

I don't think this bike likes me very much... Granted we found about 10 miles of accidental gravel roads this weekend, but I came home today to find this: It would appear that I managed to blow out both fork seals this weekend. Sigh. Time to order a few more parts...

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Put about 500 miles on the R3 this weekend with a temporary battery monitor that shows actual voltage (not just red/yellow/green). Bike puts out a solid 14.4v-14.5v while riding, no issues with restarts all weekend. After messaging with Decosse about my charging issue it seems like maybe my...

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

The manual just says 13.5v-15v at 2,000 rpm's. Technically I pass that test without issue, so maybe I should pull the battery monitor off and stop worrying about it?

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Unfortunately I tried that. Pulled the 20A headlight fuse while it was running, didn't help (actually I pulled it before starting the bike first, and now I know it also runs the starter lol). I was a little suspect of the headlights because the PO put in some cheapo LED things with like 4...

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Well unfortunately the saga continues. I've been putting miles on the bike, a couple hundred probably, and a few times that battery monitor showed red (no charge). I figured it wasn't working right since it showed amber (warning) when I measured 14.5v so I ignored it, but today I discovered...

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Oil screen retainer replaced, after a big mess on the floor. I don't understand why even when all 3 drain plugs stop dripping this thing dumps at least half a quart on the floor when I take the sump off. Reused the stock gasket, so far so good. Bike passed inspection yesterday needing only a...

    No oil in tank?

Mine leaks down pretty fast, like maybe a week or two. I have a lot of dry-sump bikes and none of them keep the oil level in the tank for more than a week or two. Funny story about that, some years ago I bought a Suzuki DR350 super cheap on Craigslist advertised as "needs a headgasket". Guy...

Yeah. Guess I'll take a shot at it tonight and hope the gasket can be reused.

The screens are there. What I left out was one of the metal intermediate "retainer" plates apparently. So one screen is only being held in with the deflector.

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Quick question. I cleaned up the shop last night and apparently I didn't reinstall one of the screen "retainers" in the oil sump (item #10 in this pic) Is this a "stop what you're doing and pull the pan again" mistake or something I can just take care of next oil change? Also maybe since...

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Yes, everyone has been extremely helpful. I'm happy to report that after replacing the plug (on the brand new Ricks stator) the bike is now charging at a rock-solid 14.5v regardless of engine RPM. I've only put a couple miles on it to check for leaks. Hope to get it out some this week, plus a...

So what did your meter say about your stator?

    Testing stator

Not yet. Just tonight I fired it up for the first time and found an issue with my new stator that appears (thankfully) to be a bad plug. I'm giving up for tonight.

Bought my first Triumph ever... an '07 Rocket 3 with 100k on it and charging issues!

Guess I musta got one of those "Friday afternoon" stators... Whoever crimped on the plug of my new stator completely missed the conductor for Leg A. I have confirmed correct resistance between all three legs using this bare wire. I'm too beat to fix this tonight, but Jack at RoadsterCycle...

    Testing stator

The gray plug is to the stator. All three legs should have somewhere around 0.6 ohms resistance to each other and should have no continuity to ground. Set your meter to continuity (looks like a little sideways arrow pointing at a straight line usually right next to all the Ohms settings) and...
