    Gearbox Issues

About your mechanics……listen to your gut or your 6th sense. If you have a hinky feeling, it’s probably for a good reason.

    Gearbox Issues

Torsion shaft is on the left side. Rear mount for the foot peg bar is just below the torsion bar area. Only way to know is to get it opened up.

    Gearbox Issues

Here is another thought. Torsion shaft bearings were an issue at the factory. Some installed backwards robbing them of lubrication. Similarly, a failing wheel bearing of a car will give you a vibration and a roaring sound as it spins. You say every gear under load so I would assume no load is...

    Gearbox Issues

Jutter is not a common US term. I know there is an anti-jutter ring in the clutch pack, so do you mean vibration? Does it feel like an engine miss or a stutter like a cylinder isn’t firing? I ran into this missing issue and the dealer went crazy looking for the issue. It finally ended up...

    Gearbox parts

I have been told the shafts are hollow so deeper grooves would weaken it too much. The grooves are therefore widened and thicker clips (stronger due to more material) are used. The issue is one side of the groove is at a specific point on the shaft to position the gear at the right spot when it...

    Gearbox parts

Not trying to incite you. The only way two unintended gears can engage is if they move out of position while other gears are engaged/engaging. The circlips are the culprit. After the damage is done, the gears bang the clips back into the groove. The side load on the shift forks is not enough...

Then, how did your gears get chewed up? You can be absolutely sure the Circlips popped out of the grooves which allowed the gears to shift out of position, and then the circle clips popped back into the grooves at some later time. It would be worth your time to have the circle clip grooves...

    Gearbox parts

Same as Gerald, look hard at Robinson Industries in New York. Their prices are good and the repairs and the modifications on my 06’ are outstanding. Just send them the input and output shafts assembled as they are and you will get back two shafts ready to drop in. Check their website.

Hard to get into any gear!

Warp 9.9 is a Guru for technical advise. He helped me save my 06. If you don’t have one yet, get the shop service manual and read up on the transmission/detent section. It can be done if you have mechanical skills. The manual describes the steps for disassembly and reassembly. If you are not...

Hard to get into any gear!

You didn’t mention how the shift lever feels. Is it floppy/loose? If it is, it’s the detent spring. Cheap part but a good bit of work to get it done. It can be accessed through the front cover but the clutch and nearby items need to be removed. Give us more details.

    Engine ticking

I have an 06 with mechanical rockers and standard lifters and I’m not sure if the newer one are hydraulic lifters but it sounds like valve lash has settled/worn in and things are a little loose. The 06 says service at 30,000 miles but since yours is under 1000 get it adjusted under warranty. If...

New Darksided Touring - Skidding without ABS (normal?)

Automobile abs is controlled by a sensor in the brakes that detects when the wheel stops rotating. Rockets have got to be the same. Have your sensors checked out. Your assumption is the DS tire is “slippery” compared to your stock tire. If an auto brakes on ice, its more slippery than usual...
