    Removing cylinder head

Nope, I used new head bolts and tightened them as per the manual.

Just to be clear: I didn't remove the liners and reseal them.

Ooops, sorry -- looks like I didn't post the final update in spring... I replaced the chain, the tensioner and blades, as well as the bent ex valves.

I didn't do that. Nope, not really. But I suspect that the chain tensioner failed to do its job properly.

Also, what made us cringe, the cam chain bends crazy, like 10cm, to the side... is this expected?

Okay, here's the current state of affairs: each exhaust valve bent, tiny scratches on the pistons, cylinders like new. Chain blades okay, tensioner okay (1/2 engaged), sprockets okay, crank sprocket key okay (it's huge actually). But there's uncertainty about the chain: it measures 5mm short of...

It ran just normal, AFAICT, just 90 km/h hill down when it went out. I can breath through the cylinder with valves "closed".

Coincidentally (?) 2km after jumping a big bump in the road. The tensioner measures 19,2mm/54,7mm now, while I'm pretty sure it measured 53,3mm the first time. Yes, TDC, it should be:

That's my suggestion, unfortunately. Measured no compression at all. Tensioner measured fine, but I'll redo and post numbers. Bike did less than 20K km. I have to verify a third time, but this is the timing at TDC:

Investigating damage caused by an apparently slipped chain :banghead:

Do the cams also have to be removed if the engine will be detached from the frame? Everything else sounds kinda reasonable -- except, the oil tank? Really?
