Great advice. I'm about 3 hours south of Carpenter, so I'll definitely swing by for check ups. I regularly drive through the area up to NY so it shouldn't be a problem stopping in for engine checks/service (one of the only nice things about being on the East Coast).

Send the transmission to Robinson Industries and they'll get you squared away https://www.robinsonindustriesinc.com/

So I'm abandoning the current engine. No point in a teardown and forensics. Triumph didn't want to help beyond a small discount on parts if the repair was performed at a dealer. 18 months later Triumph corporate called me about my NHTSA complaint... they asked me a couple yes/no questions...

    Transmissions- how common?

My '14 Roadster transmission just blew up a few weeks ago at 46,000 miles. https://www.r3owners.net/threads/14-r3r-tranny-blew-up-46-000-miles.44335/ Only preventative measure I know is shipping it to Robinson Industries for inspection, undercutting, stronger/wider circlip, and a harder 3rd...

Just sent a detailed report to the NHTSA. I'll keep you posted if anything comes of it.

I wonder if the circlip orientation could be determined at this point either with a scope through the hole in the case or during a teardown...?

I appreciate it. Maybe it's getting time for a little Robinson preventative maintenance?

Well I called the local Triumph shop and asked them to reach out to Triumph, but they just gave me Triumph's contact info. They gave me a "sorry 'bout your loss" and the best they'd offer was 20% off parts when ordered through a dealer. Since Triumph doesn't sell a complete motor, the dealer...

Yeah, you might be right there. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and ask them if Triumph North America is willing to look into this, and go from there based on their response.

That's the million-dollar question (or at least several thousand). A rock hit it? It definitely looks like it exploded from the inside out.

PBR is Pabst Blue Ribbon, basically a lighter, cheaper American version of 4X. And yes, I needed several.
